They are pushing compacts and subcompacts because the Ford, GM and Chrysler corporation has a glut of these cars in their inventories and want them sold. Hybrids are still the best buy in the long run and consumers should not believe the Edmonds.com nonsense.

I never trade in a car until the wheels are about to fall off and they are not even to the wobble stage yet. Yeah twenty six MPG is still good for a big car, V8 and weighing 3600 lbs on a truck scale. Certified weight. My pickup with a four banging engine only gets 25 MPG so the big car beats out the compact pickup. Amazing. I miss my geo which had a straight stick and four banger engine. 36MPH. It was just when you go down the road and look over at the top of truck tire you get kinda unnerved if you get my drift. I loved the geo and called it my cheap porche. It was fun but dangerous especially when I was told if rear ended the floor in front caved upward under the driver's feet. Buy a new car? No way Jose. Twelve years for my car and almost seven for the PU and neither seems ready for the scrap heap. Besides on the car plastic does not rust.

Why don't they ever mention used cars in these discussions? Used cars are a much better financial decision in just about every case. Buying new is about the stupidest thing you can do (aside from leasing). Leave that for all the stupid people to do so the smart people can have a fresh supply of used cars to buy.
