Full story: Pasadena Star-News

I turned the ignition key on my Volkswagen Jetta and the engine sounded like my tape recorder in super-slow motion.

<<But hey, the cost of electricity will be much lower than the cost of gasoline, especially gas at $3.15 a gallon.>>
And pray tell, from where will this magic electricity come from? Th eNissan Leaf even comes with a free towing plan to assuage "range anxiety" caused by people woried their car won't make it back home on its' limited charge.
The cost of the technology is being underwritten by the makers. And what's a first generation Prius worth today?
Electricity will be getting more expensive with teh new "Smart Meters". Those are a smart move for Edison, not the consumer who will be charged on a sliding scale based on demand times.
Yep. Quite the improvement over a VW Jetta. A Consumer Reports less than favored car.

If you buy the Leaf, please paste your Obama sticker where it is clearly visible and stay in the far right lane. Save each month for the replacement of all the batteries rumored to be over $8,000.

We need to reduce our local pollution due to auto emissions. Some advocate public transit, high density living, etc as the way by doing away with the need for a car.

Personally, I think this is a pipe dream and will actually make congestion and pollution worse.

Alternatively, we ca reduce emissions. Electrics are a great way to do this. Yes, the electricity must be generated, but power plants can extract much more energy from the fuel than an internal combustion engine can.. So less fuel is used.

Issues with spent batteries must be resolved.

I also like the idea of fuel cells.

Instead of relying on rumors, why not look up the warranty on the batteries?
