A little common sense will save many miles per gallon. The first, is SLOW DOWN. You'll get there in time. My two primary vehicles would both be assumed to be gas guzzlers. Through careful driving, my 10,000 lb pick up averages 20MPG. My eight cylinder Corvette gets 27mpg average, 31mpg highway. The vehicle doesn't matter as much as the driving habits. Setting cruise control at 65 is the simplest way to increase mpg

I get about 25 miles to the gallon, but now that it is mentioned I don't think I ever had the fuel injectors cleaned.....
I know about the weight thing, therefore have nothing in my trunk. Taking off quickly also uses up the gasoline, slow and easy is the way to go. |

I stopped driving as much, and hey, look at that, my gas gauge doeesent move to "E" as quickly!!

Absolutely! I got 29.3 mpg in my beatup 187,000 Altima driving on average 60-65 mph. What also helps is gradual ecceleration. |

I've also heard that not using cruise control is effctive in saving gas. I dont know if that's true, but it seems to make sense.

I'm not a mechanic, so I'm just guessing, but I would assume since the cruise is computer controlled, it would pick the most efficient way to keep the car moving at a constant speed. Maybe one who knows better could advise. |

Edmunds did a test on the cruise control issue and they found a 7% average savings in fuel. The highest improvement was 14%, which is pretty good. They also mentioned driving less aggressively and slowing down, just as you all already know to do.
I've stopped doing 80mph (I know, it was bad anyhow) and am now doing 65-70mph and have seen great improvement in my gas costs. With a 50 mile round trip commute, every bit helps. |

I don't believe that cruise can save vs a good driver. while climbing Hills the vehicle wants to maintain 60 MPH therefore the "putor" will slam the gas to the floor to do so; whereas a good driver will run up speed to 70MPH before the bottom of the climb and allow speed to drop to 50 MPH thereby maintaining very little difference in throttle. Just my thoughts though.
