define extortion: general motors telling the state of tennessee that it will cost them 200 milliion dollars to get the small car business. it is a shame that the government has wasted so much of OUR money on this pathetic excuse of a automotive industry. what nerve does GM have to ask the american people for anything after the sacrifices we have made for them and this is the thanks we get. it will be a cold day in h*ll before i ever buy another GM.

Boy, thats some balls Troy Clarke has to ask for money from Tennessee, to bring the small car production there.

Tennessee needs to tell him to shove it and tell G.M. to refund all the tax break cash they owe the state.

The Great state of Tennessee ought to take over the GM property for lack of promises GM made to the State when the deal for the plant was made a few years back. Sale the land and plant to FORD.

We as tax payers have already paid to bail them out once. Who do they think bought those cars in the the first place while they lived high on the hog???? Do they really think that much of their customers to ask for more money? In my opinion they just signed their death sentence. They can keep their vehicles. Goodbye GM!!!!!!!!!!

when GM went bankrupt the government said GM now owned 40% and the government along with the american people owned 60%(yeah right). this is what i think we owe them:
200 mill with a 60% discount - the millions in bailout we have already gave them = not a d*mn thing

i seen on the news where the government is going to give us 5,000 in (no people not bonuses) for our pieces of s*it we drive but it will have to go towards a fuel economy vehicle. and i can pretty much guess which automotive industry they plan on benefiting from it! i think i will keep my piece of s*it at least i know where that 5,000 is not going.

That d-ckhead Corker stirred the pot in all of this, with his rants in November. I hope Spring Hill doesn't get the car. He didn't have a problem throwing the Detroit 3 under the bus. "What goes around, comes around"

Bet nobody has seen this in the headlines anywhere in the media!? To all you people that support Hondas!! Yeah, they have a great car!!

440,000 Honda's Accords & Civics are being recalled due to airbags that may shoot shrapnel into people's faces when deployed -- a potentially lethal defect. One person has already died & 6 others injured. My question is -- where is the press? I know that if this were Ford, GM or Chrysler, this would be in every cover story across the country. The Accord was the # 4 best seller in the United States in 2001 & #5 in 2002. The Camry was the #8 best seller in 2001 and 2002 -- the years being recalled.

I had two great cars in my life. A 1938 Studebaker Club Commander and a 1980 Datsun B-210 wagon. The Studebaker was elegant and simple in design. It got great gas maileage and still built like a tank. The Datsun wagon had the original battery for 9 years. I may of changed the oil only 3 times and I only had to put brakes and tires on it. I drove it over 200,000 miles.
America used to be the innovator. Now we are constantly playing catch up with foreign countries. During the 70s I watched brand new cars rusting out in the sales lots. We were churning out gas guzzling junk and wondered how Japan got their foot in the door. The Big Three improved their quality dramatically but continued to design cars nobody liked. Hence the predicament we are in now.
