Well, Ford has announced that Ford Crown Victoria, Mercury Grand Marquis, and Lincoln Town Car production to end in the 2012 model year. Looks like August 2011 will be the cut off date when Ford shutters the St. Thomas Assembly Plant, where these cars are produced. I wish Ford would reconsider ending the Panther platform. I have had 2 Ford Crown Victoria's (a 1997 and 2006) and both are great.

I hope they don't try another SHO front wheel drive platform . In police use they do not hold up . One or two pits or a median crossing and they are trashed.Full frame RWD cars hold up better in rural or highway patrol requirements . GM did away with their crappy RWD , and the only other viable offer is the crown vic. Dodge ! Can I say , unibody , brakes that will not hold up , unreliable drivetrain , need I say more ? Ford better come up with a good replacement. We will see more Explorers in service if not.Not the best , but better than fwd in durability .

I heard Ford is coming up with a RWD police only vehicle to replace the Crown Vic. Have to wait for the police auctions to get one, I guess.

There is atill a great market for comfortable big cars that have some looks, to iw: Have had everyone I know lookuing for a replacement for my 1997 (wrecked Lincoln Town Car and that appears to be uimpossible to find.I spent 2 yeards lookibng for muine before I found it If peopkle have one, they want to keep it as it was last decent looking Lincoln made. Ford would do well to retool for the 1992-1997 body style. Does anyone known where I can replace my wrecked 1997 Town Car?

All FORD needs to do is to take some 300 pounds out of the car, make it 3 to 4 inches shorter, put 6 gear, and the new taurus engine inside. because if not ford, is killing hte ONLY REAL AMERICAN CAR, for not wanting to make they best effort.

Ford has the platform already. It's called the Mustang!
Extend the wheelbase 3 inches, the length 6-8 inches, make it a sedan that weighs 3700 lbs. or less, offered with the 305-hp V-6 or the new 5.0 from the GT. They can call it the LTD or Galaxie or whatever.
To justify the engineering cost, they could even sell a civilian version with an Ecoboost Four or 230-hp V-6. plus the 305-hp V-6 engine as Mustangs for those with families. Only the cops get the V-8s, though, to meet mileage standards.
If they were to add a wagon with trailer capability for 6,000 pounds, who needs a crossover? Of course, that would kill Ford's Escape/Edge/Explorer/Flex product planning, wouldn't it? Oh, well.

I just want them to make a column shift car. I refuse to buy GM, just personally ticked off! I bought the Mercury grand marquis because it was the only available with column shift which means more front seat room. I would prefer a smaller car, heck a smaller car with column shift would be much more practical and comfortable. After all, they are automatics so this 'but the floor shift is sporty' is ridiculous. Not knowing anything about rebuilding, I have no idea if it's feasible and reasonable money wise to go find an older v-6 and rebuild it? I'm not a car person, I refurbish old houses.

They are calling the Ford Taurus Police interceptor the "Police Interceptor Sedan". They are using the Ford Transit Connect as the replacement Taxi Cab. Not sure what they are going to replace the Town Car with. It might be the Lincoln MKS because it sits atop the ford Taurus platform. I will really miss the Ford Crown Victoria, Town Car, & Grand Marquis. They did really need a major facelift and things added like HD Radio and optional Ford Sync.

these cars were unique and had a huge following. ford made a dumass decision and i hope they live to see the mistake they made. there are no other car companies making this type of vehicle and they are pissing off lot of customers who will tell ford to shove it up their tailpipe. they will not buy alternate ford but ere visit other companies for better deals. We have 2 grand marquis and we love them. They are far from perfect but nothing out there com apres with them. They have an actual chassis not some bullshit tin welded to gether. They can take a big hit and and youll survive. Most people dont know or care.
Other than that you have to buy a huge truck which looks like pure sht burn tons of gas a rides like crap. Welcome to "red neck ville" and "we hunt".
