How about another feature that blocks cell phone signals inside the care. Eliminating phone calls and texting inside the car while it's running would help greatly.

This is such an excellent idea. Whomever came up with these technology ideas is a huge savor. My kids are only little but by the time they get closer to driving a car, perhaps there will be better ideas for the safety of our teens driving a car. Hopefully this will save a lot more lives in our younger generation. Woohoo!!

You know, teen drivers aren't the ONLY ones that use the cell phone on the road, and don't give me the BS that adults are more careful when using a cell phone. I'm a teen driver, and I was rear ended by a 35 year old that was more focused on the cell phone than the road, and even had the balls to refuse to hang up when we exchanged information. |

Cool your jets, my comment was a general comment towards everyone. I don't remember saying just for teens. Of course it's not just teens who cause all the trouble but they sure are lacking in the experience department. There are those of us who never use a cell phone while driving. I think it's pretty annoying to get a call while I am driving around anyway. I have to pull over somewhere and try to answer it. |

Yeah, it just sounded like you were saying about teens, sorry for misunderstanding. I typically use a bluetooth headset, but if I don't have it, I let calls goto voice mail. I tell people if its an emergency, call twice in a row, then I'll pick up, but otherwise, its annoying. |

Funny you should mention this Carbide. My daughter is learning how to drive. My husband takes her out. Today, some woman almost T-boned the van because she was on her cell and went right through the stop sign. She was shaken up when she got home(she was in the car that hit us head-on 5 yrs ago that has left me with RSD). I know people are pushing for a law about cell's. But you know what Carbide? Why can't people just use "COMMON SENSE?" I told my husband that I want to hire a driver for her and put her in a tank.LOL!!! |

I wish your daughter good luck! I think you could pick up a nice decommissioned M1 Abrams for a nice price. I hear you, there should not have to be laws put in place for something like this. Unfortunately there are people out there that ruin everything for people like you and I. OSHA partially helps the stupid people in my industry by taking common sense out of the picture so they can continue to be mindless idiots. I agree, common sense is not so common anymore. |

This is a great idea too many teens don't take driving serious, with this new program it will reduce accidents?. How when all you need is a car going 30 miles and hour hitting you head on, you don't have to go 80 miles to get killed in a crash, it takes a split second. So how can reducing the speed prevent accidents? it won't they need to work on this ..

Yeah its nice but You have to buy a brand new car. How many parents are going to buy a brand new car for their kid. That answer is slim to none.

As good as this might sound on the surface, I'm afraid it will really just be the next step in our tech-nanny state. Let the TV and schools raise your kids up till driving age, and then the car will raise them from there on out. Limiting your children and forcing them into a corner is not an effective means by which to raise them. Try parenting. It works.

Yeah I agree, all it takes is a collision that deploys an airbag and that airbag could kill who ever is driving.I like some of the other posters ideas about having a device for vehicles for both adults and teens that block the cell phone signals while the car is moving.Because of someone calls you with an emergency even though the phone has no signal to be answered or talking to someone on it,the voicemail will still allow who ever is calling to leave you a voicemail. |

Yeah, this is true. And I sure as heck know I'm not spending that kind of money to buy a car just so my parents can control how I use it. If they want to control how I drive, they can buy me a car, and pay my insurance. That's one thing I don't agree with, they are introducing all of this technology that prevents good drivers, like myself, from doing thins we want, yet insurance is sky high. I know there are a lot of "teen drivers" that don't know how to drive right, but then why are adults and the elderly treated differently, when yet, there's just as many of them getting into accidents and causing them? |

How about a headrest mounted in-car camera linked to the speedometer and a breatalizer? A similar unit could be used for DUI, elderly and other high risk drivers. Systems are available which record video constantly. When the in-car computor registers erratic braking, speed or air bag inflation it stores the video just before, during and just after the incident.

You know this is a great feature... as i have lost 3 best friends in an accident days before graduation due to a combination of speed, wet roads and lack of experience. I use my cell phone a lot (its my only source of communication) but NOT in my car if its important everyone knows to leave a message...but i agree with the comments on governing the speed at 80 what is that going to do.. in almost all areas where i live thats almost double the speed limit anyways,at any speed there is still the posibility of getting hurt! And if we could put a barrier in cars that stops the signal to cell phones would be even better!

This is awesome! I wish that I could purchase this for my son's car. It is an older Ford but this is fantastic.
I all for not letting the speed limit go over 65!. Thank goodness that someone is watching out for the teens! |

These days kids drive cars that are either their parents or bought for them. My dad said if you want to drive....buy a car...you wreck it ...you walk. kids to day do not know what having it tough is in life.
