I have a 99 Taurus and I had problems with it starting some days and not starting others. I replaced the Fuel pump and this fixed it.
I noticed that when I use the air conditioner or heater that my lights flicker. This December my lights were flickering more than normal and then the radio was making a pop sound when I turned the car off. After 2 days of this the car went crazy it tried to shut itself off twice while I was driving it and the windshield wipers go off by themselves. The gas gage moves up and down. |

I have the same problem, I have a new battery and my alternator is fine. |
||||
I had this problem, we checked the spark plugs at night, they were fine. I eventually just got a new fuel pump and have had no problems with starting, but now I have other electrical problems. |

I have a 2002 ford focus. I have problems with the car not starting sometimes. Went through many batterys. If the car sits for a day it has to be jumped. but if i drive it everyday it's fine. Went and had it tested something with the battery saver!!! fuse # 24 took out the relay and the car starts everyday. even when sitting for a few days. Cant figure out what the problem is. I need the relay back in cause the dome light and few other things arent working.

So I went to my car 2003 opened the doors and now my dome light and lights under mirror wont turn off. Does anyone know what fuse to pull????

When my interior lights would not go off, I sprayed all the door latches and hinges and every area I could think of with WD40 and they worked again right off and the light went out. If your latches are dirty or dry they will not get a good ground when the doors are shut and the sensors will not work.

I have a 1997 Linclon and had the same issue with the domelights staying on. I read the in this forums about sapying WD-40 and it worked. I just sparayed WD-40 on the latch mechanism and worked it a few times and it took care of the problem . Thanks for the information.

Did you find out what the problem was, I have the same thing?
Please let me know. I have a Taurus 2002 |

Ford taurus' suck. Mine has all the same problems and I don't think there is a fix to any of them besides not buying a Ford.

i have a 97 taurus, and the problem i am having is; the car will crank but not start. if i turn on the ignition and wait til the cooling fan goes off, adn there is this clicking noise that accompanies the fan going off. the car will fire right up. it will not start until this happens..... hope there is sometinh that i can do to fix this.......

After much time of trying to figure this one out myself I decided to take a look in the fuse box. If you pull the 15 amp fuse (located at the front left of the smaller fuses) it will disable the running lights but headlights will work fine! It was a much easier fix than I first thought. |

I have a 1999 Ford Taurus that has a weird problem. When you first turn on the headlights, they flicker on and off several times and then stop after a few minutes. Everything else is working fine, no other electrical problems. Does anyone know what might be causing this?

I have a 1999 Taurus that stops running on the highway. It usually starts in an hour or two-for sure the next day. I can use it around town and there's no problem, get back on the highway for an hour and you chance it stopping again (Its happened four times).Three mechanics have checked it out and found nothing wrong. I am afraid to travel.

My 97 ford taurus headlights dims and fades in and out all the time. My hazard lights act funny too, sometimes both sides work and other times one side works.

Rachel did you ever find out what the problem was!?! My wife's car is doing most of the same things. Alternator replaced and tune up done which were both needed. She is ready to drive the car off a cliff. Please drop me an email at thewardfamily5@live.com if you can. THANKS!!

I've had the SAME problems. I've had the alternator replaced (same problem with the car dying), then 1 year later it was doing the same thing. This time it was just a fuse. Here's the weird thing. When I drive home at night, I'll pull up in the driveway and turn the lights off. The headlights won't go off until I turn the key off. This goes in cycles. The cycles run 2-3 months where they won't turn off, then for 2-3 months they will. Once they were strobing on and off (as if you had a hand-crank and the faster you cranked the handle the brighter they came on).
The check engine light stays on constantly (4 years). I take it to Autozone and they say it's my Oxidation Sensor. There for a while my plugs would foul (#3, then when #3 got bad,#2 would start gumming up). It also loses coolant on a regular basis. Once, when I replaced the spark plugs and wires it stopped using fluid for almost 5 months (I swear). I had the motor replaced a year ago and the headlights still do the 2-3 months of "cycling", it still loses coolant (not near as much now), and the "Check Engine" light stays on. Lastly, the heating and cooling systems. I've had to add a can of freon at the beginning of summer the past 2 years (yes, both pre-engine replacement and after). When I got the car 4 years ago, the heater would only blow lukewarm air (usually when coolant was low). Now it only blows lukewarm air. I guess the coolant loss could be related to the heater systems? In closing, I bought this car off a lady that only drove it to school where she worked. It had 45,000 miles on it (roughly in 5-6 years). It's haunted, that's my only guess. |

OH! I forgot the "Door Open" dash light stays on too. It sometimes turns off after 15 miles or so, then the doors lock.*sigh*

I have the same issue with my 99 Taurus. It started with the door locks stopped working, then the windshield wipers would go on while the switch was off, then the headlights would stay on after the car was shut off. Finally, my battery would go dead after 2 days of sitting idle. I removed all the fuses to the radio, cd, running headlights and I disconnect the battery when idle. I cannot fing the problem. HELP!

Anyone know how I can swap out the ECS Electronic Crash Sensor on my 99 Taurus? What needs to be disconnected first, how do I undo the sensor clip.
