Which fuse did they pull....these cars SUCK! I have gotten my third battery and when I got in the car today it started abd idled fine, but once I put it in gear and tried to take off it died. I tried to start it again and it started fine but everytime I put it into to gear the car dies. The only thing I can think of is the fuel filter and it is a cheap thing to try. Anyone else have any suggestions?
there is a 175amp bus bar fuse at the end of the MAXI FUSE BOX (follow the + cble from the battery to the maxifuse box, remove the cables and there you will fine a BUS BAR which control the alternator and other for power. BUS bar cost at MURRAY is $4.99.

I have owned a 1998 Taurus for 7 years. I owned it for a couple of months before the interior lights started staying on. I took the fuses out of the lights and let the ones under the dash burn out. Same thing with the door locks. The light on the dash stays on most of the time. Every now and then when I take my foot off the brake, the light goes out and the door locks. Now the daylights are staying on and I don't know how to get them to shut off. My neighbors are going to go nuts on that one! Help!!

I have a 1999 Ford Taurus, when I drive the car the battery light goes on, at idle it is off and charging. I replaced the battery, checked the belt for tightness and checked with a volt meter to make sure it was discharging at higher revs and it is. Anyone have any idea on what is happening.
help for me please

There is a daytime light control module located under the wheel well on the driver's side between the tire and the headlight it is a box with a wiring harness that plugs in from the bottom. unplug the harness and the lights will go out !

My 96 Taurus runs ok but I have to charge the battery every month. I found the battery saver relay was staying all the time and drawing about 0.25 amps. The Haynes repair manual shows the relay controlled by the generic electronic module. Obviously the control signal from this generic electronic module to the battery saver relay is staying on. The problem is the Haynes repair manual doesn't show the location of the generic electronic module. I suspect that this module may be the root of many electronic problems with these cars. If anyone else has had this problem and has tried replacing the module please post your finding.

1995 Taurus problem started with overheating, check engine light engaged, car started cutting off. Replaced the relay module, alternator, battery, oil pump, hoses, belts, etc. What else could it be? All I think of is something electrical. Checked all the fuses, etc. Haven't replaced Computer.

I WAS THINKING THIS CAR WAS POSSESSED!- ALSO THE SAME PROBLEM; for everyones info we had our daylight running lights flashing (like a strobe light) for awhile and the new problem is that our headlights won't shut off! A few weeks ago we had our wipers turning on and off intermittently when we hadn't touched them (it's not doing this now). Have also had the door ajar light on when no doors are open and of course the interior light then stays on. HELP! Someone must have an answer....

the battery in my taurus keeps dying too.
i hooked up a circuit tester and started pulling fuses. i think i have narrowed it down to 2 circuits that are draining power.
10a battery saver causes circuit tester light turn burn steady. 5a radio circuit causes circuit tester light to blink. it's obvious that both of these are drawing power, but which one is killing the battery? any ideas?

btw - battery is 2 months old - alternator is fine

Did you ever get a response? My 98 Taurus just started doing somehting similar. The headlights won't turn on - only the parking lights. The parking lights won't turn off unless the battery is disconnected.

I have a 96 Taurus. Head lights will not shut off. we have had the car a year , we pulled all the relays one at a time and still cant get the head lights to shut down when the key is turned off and pulled out. Car don't appear to have a day light sensor. Seams to be a problem with the delay system. Any help would be appreciated thanks Brian

Hi,
I have the same problem. I took out the batt svr mod and put a jumper wire in the two right hand slots where the module was removed. I have all the functions plus I'm down to 90ma.

Your symptoms are similar to mine and I suspect that your alternator is going. Mine started to fail a year ago (1st sign was the battery light coming on under high electrical loads like accelerating up hills), but when I had the alt. checked at the local Ford shop they said it looked fine. Occasionally we noticed the dimming lights and other blibs (tachometer goes to zero, but car still runs). Eventually the car appeared to have an electrical "seizure" multiple lights on, some displays off, followed by the engine quitting. Replacing the battery (which was old) and the alternator has fixed this problem.

I think the late 90s alternators must have been really good. Every Ford I had prior to my 99 had the alternator die prior to 100K. I'm at 150K and it took a year from the first sign to failure. The ~$500 repair bill (Sears) isn't too steep, I did a similar repair on a Mazda626 awhile back and the alternator (rebuilt) was $400. Hope this helps

I have had some electrical problems with my 2000 Ford Taurus. I have put 3 altenators, 2 new batteries, new wiring, and who knows how many fuses! I have only owned it for a little over 1 year. The headlights flicker, the gas gauge is broken, and now I can't run all of my accessories at once or my car will stall out. I can't drive if it is raining and dark, forget listening to my radio. I just had the battery tested again and it is fine and the alternator is fine.

What else can I replace to fix the problem? Each one of the alternators tested bad before being removed, and the car is acting the same way it did before it was fixed each time.

I have a 1999 Ford Taurus. My problems started when the battery light came on. The dome light inside the car stayed on for months at a time and the door ajar light stayed on even when all doors were shut. Then when running the a/c, the car lost power after about 10 minutes and died on the highway. I too had the battery, alternator and all fuses replaced, but it still stalled. I took the car to a local mechanic and he found a short in a switch inside the drivers side door. He put in a new switch and the battery light went off, the dome light inside went on and off like normal and the door ajar light went off. I still cannot run the air conditioner, it drains the battery and causes me to stall. My mechanic tells me it's probably a short in the air conditioner itself but it would be costly to try to find the wire that is shorting out. The shocks are also shot. There is a terrible cracking noise every time I go over even the smallest bump in the road. My mechanic is now telling me to sell the car before I have to put hundreds more into it.
