My taurus has a rough idle when started especially in colder weather and will die out a few times before it warms up, then it runs a little better. My local mechanic has checked all the obvious & it still will not run right. Please let me know whats going on.

You're probably not getting any replies because your post is a bit lacking in information. How many miles are on the car and what in particular did your mech. check. Mass air flow sensors, throttle position sensors, oxygen sensors, injectors, plugs, dirty air filters and plug wires can all contribute to problems of this nature and a good mechanic should be able to diagnose the problem.

My car has 204,000 mi on it. My dad suggests going to the local ford dealership. My sister previously owned the car and took it to that local mechanic. She did not specify what this guy checked on it.

Still, if they determine that it's still got some life left I'd check the things I mentioned in my last post and use a good safe throttle body cleaner and maybe she'd breathe a bit better and run a little smoother. Good luck.

My son's 97 Taurus with 59k mile on it had a rough idle issue. The colder it was the worse it was. The Idle air controle module fixed it. If your car runs better with the throtle open a bit the IAC might be the problem. It controlls the amount of air the engine gets at idle.

2002 Taurus w/ 112,000 miles. Car idles fine at about 8-900 rpms in every mode but overdrive. There it swings between 3-400 and seems like it is going to die. Once I give it a little gas to get going, all is fine. It will perform as normal. In order to avoid stalling at an intersection, I shift to low gear and eventually shift up into overdrive. Any suggestions on this problem?

My 1999 Ford Taurus has been having the same problem. I was driving the other day and when I came to a stop the car stalled. It doesn't have a rough idle all the time but more often than not. Any ideas?
