The engine on my 99 Ford Taurus has been cutting out while driving recently. When I try to restart it, the engine will try to catch but not turn over for approx 15-45 minutes. It has been at the Mechanics over the weekend. There are no error codes coming from the computer. The road tests, fuel pressure tests, and diagnostics are all coming back with negitive results. All systems seem to be functioning as they should. It definitley seems like a fuel problem to me and my mechanic and an expert from justanswer.com tend to be leaning in that direction as well. My mechanic, and I appriciate it, won't replace the fuel pump on whim and have that not be the problem. The check enging light does not come on before or after the problem has resolved it self. If anybody has had this type of problem, could you please provide any info. Thanks

Have a 1992 Taurus Wagon and same engine cut out while driving happened. Took it to my mechanic and could find nothing wrong with any system, no error codes, no check engine light.
Last night happened again on the way home. Sat for about 20 minutes and it started right up with no unusual anything. I have noticed that this seems to be happening only on fairly warm days around 85 to 90 degrees and humid. |

Both issues seem very much like the issue Im going through. IM no expert but I tend to lean towards the catalytic converter being pluged. Does anyone know if these can be tested? Why does ford make such a pain in the ass setup with the catalytic convert being on assembly. Makes it pretty hard to bypass with a straight pipe to try and diagnose the problem.

I currently have one or both converters nearly plugged on my 47,000 mile '93 Taurus. I know this is the case because of the symptoms: if I 'punch it', the car stumbles and chokes before finally catching on and taking off. It dies at intersections, especially when it's not fully warmed up yet. An often too-rich fuel mixture is to blame. The real question is why it's doing this. The car doesn't have too many miles, but has sat unused for much of its existence. The years have been unkind to something under the hood! The kicker is that it always restarts right away, though it may on occasion stall again, but I've never had to restart it three times.
If he car will not start again, as seems to be the problem some of you are having, it's probably not the convertor. If it was, it'd be so plugged that you'd not be able to run the car for more than thirty seconds or so before built-up exhaust choked it out. If the fuel system checks out, especially if the fuel pump is tested at 28-30 psi, something else is wrong. Since the car does restart eventually, I'm guessing that it's an electrical problem. Ignition coils do occasionally become faulty, especially when you've got six of them in a 'coil pack' versus a conventional distributor, but it could be a fault in the fuel pump circuit, perhaps a bad relay or a faulty ground connection somewhere that is intermittently deactivating your fuel pump. Best of luck with this frustrating problem! |

A super quick test to see if it's fuel related is to simply spray t-body cleaner into a vacuum hose, or into the t-body and see if it fires up. If not, then you know it's not fuel related. If it does then run (for a few seconds), then you know it's not getting fuel. |

I have a 2001 Ford Tauras that cuts out at higher speed. It only happens intermittenly and no code is shown. Two machanics could not find the problem because it did not have a code and did not cut out when they drove it. I have checked the vaccum hoses and replaced the EGR valve. Can you help me?

Had same issues and took mine to my mechanic he got my car to do it to him and then tested it. He discovered it needed a new computer...
