My 1997 Ford Taurus is in the shop today having the transmission rebuilt. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't. Last fall it started shifting very hard into 2nd gear. I had the transmission serviced and it got better but didn't go completely away. Earlier this week at a stop sign I pulled out into traffic and the car would only go about 5 mpr. With the pedal to the floor and a semi coming it just made it across a busy street and started picking up speed. I called my mechanic and he checked it out and told me it was the transmission again. I got the phone call a couple of hours ago, they had pulled the transmission and found several 'burned' parts and a broken pump among other things. Next Tuesday I pay my $2000 and get my car back. I say get rid of the car and move on while it still runs well enough to sell it!I had a 90 Ford Taurus. At about 80'000 miles, it started shifting hard into 2nd gear enless I kept my foot out of it. Got 156,000 miles out of it and sold it. No other major repairs. Was a great car.
