Just dropped my 2002 Taurus off at the dealer because my rear brakes were making noise. Found out my passenger rear spring was broken and the driver's side rear spring was about to break. They couldn't get the drum off the driver's side because it was stuck. (That's another problem in it self.) Going to cost me $900 to fix the rear suspension. Now that I've read about the problems with the front springs, I'm scared to drive the car, because I have to drive on the freeway to and from work. Didn't want to buy another car, but seriously thinking about it.

Just took my 2002 Taurus in to have the brakes checked and found out rear springs are broken, told by the service company that it's a common problem.

Reading all these e-mails I'm horrified! Is my car safe to drive????

2002 Taurus with a broken rear spring.

YOU HAVE TO REPORT THIS TO NHSTA!

Bitching to Ford and these forums is USELESS!

And you need to report the issue to your Congressman.

NHTSA has an alert started on this issue.
It's EA08018

When you call their hotline at 1-888-327-4236
ask for a supervisor. then insist that your complaint is direct tord that number as add-on evidence.

Also if your issue was rear springs, let NHTSA know that.

Also CALL FORD and register the complaint.
To make sure they can't claim you never did.

Last but not least, do what I am doing.
BLOG the issue and send letters to all your local media and al the national media.

Public Pressure and bad press. The only way to win against these prick corporations.

FIGHT BACK!

I suffered snapped front coil springs in both my 1995 Taurus and my 2002 Taurus. Ford had a recall for this defect but only for the 1993, 1999, 2000 and 2001. They also had to recall Ford Focus from 2000, 2001 and 2003 for the same defect. The defect is caused by inadequate corrosion protection and usually happens in the states and provinces that use salt on the roads. NHTSA is currently investigating cars outside of the recalls but that doesn't mean another recall is going to happen.

Daily Horoscope for December 20

Taurus

As Mars turns retro, emotional tension makes you feel as though you're walking on eggshells. The temperature has risen by several notches, making the situation at home more fraught. Better to clear the air quickly and cleanly than to sulk and brood in ways that simply prolong the agony.
