What, if any, problems have been encountered on Taurus sedans?

Has anybody any info on recalls?

Thanks,
Bob

I have a 2002 that I bought new; have had no problems. I had a recall on the telescoping foot pedals, but that was all I had.

I bought a 2006 Taurus,'fleet' vehicle with 19,000 miles on it. The only recall listed is for a poorly lubricated windshield wiper gear. That's all I could find on it so far.

In case anyone is not aware, Ford tried to kill off the Taurus in 2005, but the demand for the vehicle is so high from the fleeter companies, it's still in production. The plant responsible for producing the Taurus isn't scheduled to be closed until August 2006. But one now before they're all gone.:)

My 2001 Taurus with the FFV system has just had a failure of the Fuel Level Sensor. This sensor apparently makes the fuel guage go wacko too. The Ford service guy told me to occasionally run some Chevron Techroline gas or to go to an auto supply place and get the additive. It supposedly "cleans the electrical stuff in the tank." I find this hard to believe, but it's a cheap fix.

I Have a 2002 SES Taurus. I bought it in October of 2001. The front drive wheel spring snapped it half while my car was sitting in the driveway,(the car wasn't even turned on). The spring snapped into my tire which exploded. It blew out half of the interior rim of the tire.
Ford has been giving new springs to owners of model 2001 and earlier. They also replace a tire that gets punctured as a result. I think it is interesting that they don't offer this program for a 2002...
I am not happy with Ford about this as my families safety was at huge risk when I was driving for the last 4 1/2 years.

I have a 2002 SES Taurus. Exactly the same circumstance as Curt with the front spring, including no help from Ford. Also front power door locks suddenly stopped working today.

I own a 2002 Ford Taurus SES and had a right front coil spring break while my 23 year old daughter was driving the car. It didn't puncture the teire and, luckily, did no personal injury to my daughter. Until I did some research and came upon your site, I had no idea this was a common problem. Obviously, Ford knows about this problem and is waiting for a class action lawsuit to remedy this malfunction and to pay injury bills. Just tell me where to sign up. I'd start a suit if I knew how. Greedy, corporate bastards.

2002 Taurus Wagon 76000 kms (47500 miles)same thing. I sat in the car in my driveway and the Front Driverside Coil spring let go. It made a huge noise as it popped. The car was not even running. I thought the Taliban had made it to Canadian soil!
The spring then took out the front tire which gave another loud bang. Car had to be taken to the Dealer by a flatbed. Service advisor told me that if would have been a 1999-2001 it would have been covered. Does someone need to die in an accident before they extend the recall

Just took my 2001 Taurus in for rear brakes and mechanic discovered both rear springs broken. In fact the rear passenger sping machined a 1/4 inch deep groove into the sidewall of my relatively new rear tire. It would seem to be a design or manufacturing defect since it happened to both rear springs. Has anyone else experienced this? If you notice the rear of your car setting slightly lower than when the car was new have the rear springs checked! In fact - its such a serious safety issue you probably should have the rear springs checked anyway.

Yes, I too have a 2002 Ford Taurus with broken right rear spring that also grooved my tire. Sounds like a common problem. Looking for a solution from Ford.

2002 Taurus Wagon-60000 kms (37000 miles).

While backing car out of our driveway,we heard a loud noise and thump as left/front tire bottomed out. Called CAA and discovered that the coil had snapped.Had it towed to CAA approved garage and am now awaiting call re: repair costs.
Luckily for my wife and I, it didn't happen while we were away last weekend travelling on 110kph highway.
Ford will hear from us!!!!

I had the front springs replaced on my 2000 Taurus under the Ford recall. The retainers could not be installed because I had already replaced the struts with premium aftermarket parts. Ford agreed to replace both front springs.

This repair caused a few serious problems:

1. The front springs are new, the rear springs are old. The car now sits too high in front. The dealer said:"sorry"! My car now handles very poorly and new rear springs are over $600 installed.
2. The mechanic took a shortcut to remove the struts.....he dropped the subframe. It was never bolted back correctly. I drove for over a month with just one bolt supporting my engine and transaxle. A different dealership corrected the mess. They said I was lucky that the subframe didn't break off. According to the mechanic, this would have been a fatal accident at highway speeds.

Same thing. My 2002 Taurus SES, broken right front spring, luckly while daughter was backing out the drive, not going 70 mph down the highway. Amazing that the 2001 and prior got the recall for the same thing but not the 2002. I guess there havn't been enough people injured yet to justify the recall. Everyone ought to save the receits for repairs for when this will be covered.

I went to rotate the tires on my wife's 2000 Taurus last weekend and found both rear springs broken, with a 1/4" groove in one tire. Had to replace the struts as they were bent also!

Last weekend I found that my wife's 2000 Taurus also had two broken springs and damaged tires.

Christmas Eve got flat tire in drive way. Christmas Day Evening, my husband took off tire and discovered front driver's side coil spring broken. Upon reading all of these other complaints, I am a bit relieved that it is a problem that Ford knows about. I doubt that it will be covered, but maybe when they realize how many people could have been injured if it would have been worse, they will do something!
