I`ve had an 05 which was crap, now an 08 an its worst, I`ve had all kind of problems with this one only for FORD to cancel my warranty, they refuse to stand by their product, nowing it had these problems. I urge anyone who`s thinking about buying a FORD leave on the lot. I use to be a diehard FORD BUYER. If Toyota came out with a dully 3500 or 4500 i`d buy it in a heartbeat.

I was lucky. I have a large group of friends that are contractors and was warned about the new diesel waster up front. I kept my 05 F350 FX4 4door (6.0) and still get 19 highway and 16 city, "Pretty much." my towing MPG on the flat have been as high as 17 with 8,500 lbs behind me. I'm a FORD man through and Through, but the new (6.4) was a step down from the (6.0) which was a step down from the (7.3).
The key here in my simple mind is the "Stepping down" part. Ford needs to get a good engine in what I think is a great truck.
The folks here stating emmissions are correct also, but the playing field is level, Right? It's not like Dodge and Chevy get a break, yet they build/install decent power units into their trucks.
just my 2 cents...worth no more.

you know, for all of the complaing youre all doing, youre not doing much about it. all you have to do is find a truck thats a couple years older, in good condition, before the new emissions laws came out. an 07 or 08 diesel will help much more. the 5.9 cummins can squeeze out 25 mpg.

Bill wrote: Come on folks...if you look at the spec sheet on Ford's own web sight, they don't list fuel economy. What do you expect? Seriously, Bill has a really good point. I saw a Ford commercial on TBS during the NBA playoffs, bragging about their "best in class" fuel economy. So I went to their web site, and found it impossible to locate their so-called fuel efficiency or economy. Their own owners are reporting 8MPG on these trucks. Makes me really bummed that I *only* get 52MPG in my Prius.

I own a F350 DWD and I an down right pissed off about the gas mileage. I get 8 to 9.2 MPG towing a 6X12 Motorcycle trailer. I get 10 to 11.6 MPG on open high way towing nothing. I bought it new in 2007 and now have 28,800 miles on it. Been in and out of the shop for regen every 60 to 110 miles. Now I think they turned off the regen light because I have not seen it in the last 14,200 miles.

I own a 08 F450 4x4 with 4:88 gear set,Remove the DPF and install a sport tuner. I did and I now get 13-14 mpg's. Lets keep in mind though that these trucks are 9000lbs empty. That is twice as heavy as my half ton 4x4 which got 17mpg's. I would think the next improvement would be a gear vendors overdrive unit which would lower the highway rpm's by 500. This unit is approx $4000 installed so it will have to wait. Haven't had any mechcanical problems like other posts, but only owned this truck for 10 months. Very happy with this truck so far.
