Hi,
I am a 2001 Zx3 owner and this is a common problem for all focuses. For some of you, who are driving and having stall issues it is probably your EGR valve or sensor which has stopped working-focushacks.com has a cheap workaround. For stalling while stopped-it is likely your PCV Valve which needs cleaning/replacement. Other things to check are the MAF and clean if necessary, the IAC, vacuum hose leaks(especially crankcase hose)and the fuel filter. 2000 Focuses had a recall on fuel pumps-this may also be the problem. Hope this helps! |

My mom has a 02 focus zx3 and everytime the car gets down to a quarter of a tank of gas and she goes to the gas station and puts gas in it-it won't start. This is usually when hot outside. She can lift the hood for a couple of minutes and then it will start right back up. Anyone else have this problem?

2001 Ford Focus ZX3, having all the same problems. After about 20-25 mins the car starts to spit and sputter when you press the gas. Like it gets less power. Replaced crankshaft, fuel pump, and alot more. ANYONE KNOW ANYTHING?

This sucks that no one has any answers for this. Now this car got my mom out and she shut it off went in the store and when she came back out the steering wheel was locked and wouldn't release. I've been told these cars are know for this too and the switch needs replaced. One woman made a complaint that while driving hers the steering wheel locked on her and she hit a tree. Ford should be ashamed to have all these complaints like this of all the same symptoms and not be willing to fix it.

turn off ur ac it will fix all of ur problems

What would turning off the ac have to do with the car not starting?

I suffered this problem for years. Finally found a dealer who drove it until it actually did the intermittent stalling. It was the idle air control valve. Try it! I did everything else (O2 sensor etc). It wasnt until I told him "Intermittent stalling on hot days" that he finally realized it was a throttle problem. I might actually start to like my car again

I have this issue too. By looking online I found out that it might be the clutch switch. Hence, my personal mechanic cannot find anything wrong. No codes no nothing shows up.

Well this car is an automatic so it couldn't possibly be a clutch switch.

The problem is your oxygen sensor I know that sounds weird trust me oxygen sensor is it.

Did you ever find the answer?? Having exactly the same problem. January weather = cold. Paid for mechanic to 'clean' AIC--did not help. IAC Vlave replacement? Crank Sensor replacement? Have a 2000 ZX3. Should we junk the car or spend more money to 'diagnose problem'. Tough decision. Help!! |

I have a 2000 Ford Focus and started having this problem last week, after some studying I tried taking off the ICV located at the back of the engine below the throttle and cleaned at using carb cleaner which helped a bit I then added a fuel line cleaner to clean the injection system and that also helped a bit. I went on to rev my engine and spray barb cleaner straight into the throttle which has made the biggest difference. To do this remove the air flow hose from the throttle use the throttle on the engine to rev your engine and spray the carb cleaner straight into the throttle let the air suck it through if your car was as bad as mine its possible you won't even here the air being sucked threw until after a few sprays but you should here a strong sucking noise when the throttle is applied to over a couple thousand revves, if your still having problems try cleaning or replacing your EGR or replacing the fuel filter all rather cheap remedies if you choose to clean rather than replace, hope this help you all
