I agree, Stamford taxpayers should not be funding luxury vehicles for government employees (not in Stamford, not in Hartford, not in Washington D.C.).
You lost me at the part about spending the money on nurses for private schools instead. I can't get behind that issue. There's a simple alternative available to all Stamford children. |

1 These vehicles have been spotted at NY AIRPORTS, Casinos, Numerous Bars and Restaurants on nights and weekends, etc. Many employees with assigned vehicles have been observed attending golf tournaments and other charity events and consuming alcohol, and large amounts in many cases, then driving home in their city vehicle. Employees have been stopped for DWI, been involved in accidents in off hours, and have had their vehicle vandalized and stolen. It's time for this taxpayer subsidized free for all to stop. These guys are out of control, and one day, it will cost us all!! I want to drive a new truck every 2 years too, but come on already. |

1 You would NOT want anything ever owned, maintained, and operated by city Employees. They have absolutely No maintenance program whatsoever. Their philosophy, when it breaks, bring it in. Employees often learn to live with broken, malfunctioning vehicles because of the absolute incompetence of the Vehicle Maintenance Garage. An oil change has been known to take a month. A MONTH!!! By the way, most of the vehicles listed on that auction site have been in the graveyard for many, many years. |

has an obligation to provid nurses in all schools (just like they supply buses) only children won't die from a missed bus ride. They can die from unavailable medical help. It is a state law and the state pays back the city for much of the cost. It was put in the budget this year (which most of it would be paid back by the state) but we did not have the funds for all the nurses NEEDED. Glad to find out that the money is going toward buying gas from the middle east. Oh and doesn't one of the cars drive to Brooklyn, NY every nght?

In my earlier post, I did not dispute that it's a law. I do not agree that it is a good use of taxpayers' money.

John,
I know it's not right that they get a fully loaded Explorer, but at least it's something made in the US and contributing to the economy. The way this city is headed, it won't be long until the city workers are driving freakin' Toyotas and such! |
|
|
Gordon you fool, they are already driving "freakin toyotas and such".
Take a close look and you'll find out that they are used vehicles that some other town threw away because they are past a servicable life. Cops get everything the rest of us beg for scraps. |
|
Thanks for the tip. We'll check into it. Shouldn't be, but for this town, anything is possible. |
