Been having problems with it starting. It used to not start after sitting over night. The dealer replaced the low pressure pump. It then started fine after sitting over night. But then it would be hard to start when engine was hot. Finally started giving a lot of trouble, Loss of power, etc. Then it quit all together. The replaced the low pressure pump again and it still won't run. Now they say it must be the High Pressure (injector) pump. It is like $750.00 and they're not sure it will fix it. Got any ideas? Thanks

Replaced the injectors, now it cranks up and idles, but will not run over 40MPH wide open.
They have no clue what to do. Truck has been down 2 weeks now.

Brad, thanks for the reply. It's an 03' Sprinter. I've replaced the EGR once before due to a lack of power issue. It had no codes, but I gambled and that fixed it. That was 50K miles ago.
Currently it has only one DTC, it's for the water in fuel sensor. The light has been on since the last time it was serviced, but I check the filter everytime I fill up and no water has been in it.
One more thing, right before it quit, it was making a very loud noise under the hood. Sounded like a fan. More throttle you give it worse it got. Right before it would shift gears the noise would go away and come back after the shift. After the injector change it is doing the same thing although now it does crank.
Any other ideas? Every other dealer is at least 2 hours away and the closest guy is in school till next week.

Doesn't the computer force a limp-home mode if it detects any codes that could harm the engine or turbo? Have you cleared the code to see if that changes things?

Figured it out. The intercooler hose going to the throttle body (EGR or whatever) had a small hole in it causing it to lose boost pressure. Found it myself after all this crap.
Kurt, to my knowledge the dealer is your only bet on remote keys. I charge $55.00 a piece including programming form a plain key with no remote.

Had this thing going good for about a week now. I went to warm up this morning before taking the kids to school. It cranked up and ran fine. We came out of the house about 10-15 minutes later and it wasn't running. Said "Start Error" on the instrument cluster. Now it won't start again. It was a little low on fuel last night when I parked it, so I put more fuel in this morning and still nothing. Any Ideas?

it's an electronic problem with the skreem module or a bad chip in the key you could check the fuses under the seat to make sure no fuses fell out the skreem has it's own 7.5 amp fuse in a stack of three fuses they are positioned vertically in the fuse block

2003 sprinter has fuel leak when I start it up. It leaks for about a minute and leave a small puddle of fuel under the hood directly above the egr valve. It stops after it warms up. Took it to the dealer but can not find a leak. Fuel filter shows no evidence of leak. Could it be the fuel injector? It only has 61k on it.

Don't listen to frank, It's not the most common problem but every now and then we'll get a van that has the problem. take it to a dealer and have them replace the SKREEM module. It locks up and there is nothing that i know of to fix it.

If you look at the high pressure fuel pump under the EGR valve behind the radiator fan you will probably see it leaking.

I have the same issue, come out of the uppermost injection pump plate, bought another pump (used but known to work and not leak) put it on, guess what... still does it!!! I replaced all the o-rings from turbo diesel injection service in indy, still leaks - only for about 15 seconds on a cold morning then no leaks all day - I am baffled! going for the fuel pressure regulator next, injectors after that????????

Are you saying that it's leaking from the same place on the pump you just put in? Or am I misunderstanding you? Where is the leak coming from? What year is your van? Which O-rings did you replace?

have 2005 sprinter, out of the blue six months ago when i tried to start in the morning, the start error display came on. Had the truck towed to the dealership for free, picked up the next night. Had a note saying to disconnect battery cable to reset computor, have been doing this off and on for the last six months. Told me it might be the modual behind the dash that picks up the key fob. Any suggestions
