I have a 2004 diesel sprinter with 250,000 miles. Check engine light came on, I took it to the local Dodge dealer who isn't a sprinter dealer but they do have an OBD3 scanner with correct software. The scanner came up with cylinder 1 misfire. Van runs fine except idle speed seems slow and somewhat rough, engine has begun using oil at a rate of one quart per 8000 miles and fuel mileage is down to 20 mpg. I think it's an injector and could benefit with some injector cleaner but I am not positive. Anyone have any other suggestions or ideas.
Thanks, Rich |

I'd recommend taking it to a Freightliner dealer or any other diesel shop and ask them to conduct a compression check. That should verify that you don't have more serious issues. If it turns out to be an injector, a good diesel shop should be able to test it and clean/replace it for you.
