i recently purchased this vehicle and after a few days we had to replace the alternator and tensioner. it did not fix problem , while driving or sitting idle all lights go out for a few seconds then they come back on.does anyone know what can be done to fix this problem?

Sounds like you might have a problem with the light switch or the BCM (Body Control Module) and or their connections. These vans are, IIRC, known for light switch problems as well as loose and or corroded BCM connections.
You can have your Chrysler Dealership (or qualified auto repair shop) "reset" the BCM by removing the "IOD" fuse (located in the fuse box next to the battery) for a few minutes. However, it's unlikely that doing so would correct the problem due to the fact that the battery should have been disconnected for more than "a few minutes" during the alt. replacement procedure. |

Note: This problem could can also be caused by a bad fuse block and or fuse block connection according to what I've found on these forums.

I have a 1998 Grand Caravan SE with 101,000 miles. Today I started up my van and noticed that the odometer lights, shift control lights, tachometer, oil guage , gas guage , interior lights, rear wiper, front wiper, and power door locks do not work. I checked all the fuses and they are good. While talking on the phone to my son while the vehicle was running, everything came on suddenly for just a moment. A couple a minutes later, everything worked again for a moment and then "clicked" off again. Each time this occured I could hear a "clicking" sound under the dash panel near the steering column. Any comments?

My lights are flashing on my heater controls.I had to just the Van and ever since it does this. It flashes for appx 1 hour then quits flashing

my 98 grand caravan has been having eletrical problems for awhile. The dash lights and heater/AC buttons flash off and on. Now as of the last week the mph gauge will start jumping and the van acts like its running out of gas. This last for several seconds then it will run normal, then run rough. It rans this way for 45 minutes yesterday until I got home and parked it.
Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks |
