It's a pain in the a-s to do, but it can be done. You loosen the clamp where the air inlet hose connects with the throttle body and pull it free. Push in the locking tabs to unclip the air inlet hose from the air cleaner housing (and free a couple of others things to make room). Then you can jockey the old air cleaner element out and stick the new in. If you buy a Haynes repair manual for the 1995-2002 Chrysler Sebring, Dodge Stratus and Avenger, it will tell you how. Or call Chrysler's customer assistance in Auburn Hills at (800) 992-1997, and they will send instructions. It used to be you could only get the air filters at a dealer for around $18, but they're now available at auto supply places for $8 and change. Don't bother to inspect the air cleaner to see if it needs replacing. The days of just spinning a wing nut off to get access and kicking the air cleaner element against your heel to get the dirt off it are past. Just change it every 30,000 miles as the manual instructs (more often if the air is dirtier or dustier where you are. |

Great directions had no problems changing the filter. Thanks

I have a 2001 sebring sedan as well and the housing does not have any clips on the back like you described. It looks pretty much like a solid housing. Any ideas |

Follow Robert's instructions. Use a screwdriver to loosen the hose clamp by turning the screw... |

Just finished changing the air filter after reading these postings. Have a 2003 Sebring LX sedan.
Follow the directions posted by Robert Barker. In my case their is a sensor at the top of the air inlet hose. Disconnect. Remove the two-hose connection on the air inlet hose next to the box. Remove the small bracket nut on the RT side of the air intake box. NO clips on the box, only a clip holding a wiring harness. Lifts off without any trouble. Press the two clips in and move the air inlet hose out of the way. The box holding the air filter just lifts out of the engine compartment. Replace air filter, and reconnect. |

Just followed the directions found here and was able to change the filter. It says on the side of the filter houseing to see the owners manual for instructions. The instructions say to change the filter.....Good grief, how stupid is that. No wonder they're going bankrupt if that is one of the examples of engineering. Thank you Robert for posting....saved me from breaking something.

So how exactly did you free those wires on the left side of the box of the air filter? I took out the one nut and unhooked it in the back, but the unit wont "prop up" so I cant pull out the circular air filter without pulling or damaging those wires on the left.
Any advice on how to get those electrical wires out the way? |

First, not all 01 Sebrings are the same. There is a 2.4L 4cyl engine, and a 2.7L 6cyl engine. I think the one you have with just one nut is the 2.7L, because it's the same as mine. As for the 2.4L, I think it has three nuts. I'm actually kind of lost on changing my air filter as well. I removed the nut, and it still wouldn't move. What do I do? |

Thanks for the info---
but puting the box back in is not easy Can the box be taken apart & put the bottom on 1st? Thanks |

|
Worked for my 2003 2.7L also (after I about tore the housing apart trying to get into it....) Thanx; also there were enough clues to know how to change the filter in my 2005 T&C....
