At 80,000 miles my Sebing 2.7 engine seized with only an oil light warning. Dealer said it overheated and was classified as "abuse" and Chrysler would not replace the engine. During my search for another engine, I found that no remanufacturer will deal with one of these engines. One guy in Memphis told me that they all do this between 60,000 and 120,000 miles. This engine is on 2001-2004 Sebring Convertibles (VIN code U).

we also have a 2001 that has the engine failed. 2.7 v six. it jumped time at 104,000 miles and the eng is no good. at 104,000!!! that is unheard of short life. |

My Sebring has 91,000 miles and has a lower engine noise on acceleration |

A friend had an oil warning light on her 2004 Sebring at around 40,000 miles. The mechanic said a bad oil pressure sensor was likely and replaced it. The problem was solved.

So my Sebring only has 57,000 miles on it (and it is a 2001) My engine light had been on for a little bit and I decided to get it checked out. I was told that the problem was a "down stream oxygen sensor". After I had that replaced for about 200 bucks...the engine light was still on, and now it was making a rattling noise so loud I thought I was driving a diesel truck. I took it back to the mechanic and they basically said that my engine was a goner and that I would do better buying a new car versus trying to replace the engine.

I have a 2002 sebring conv with the 2.7 also. I had a low oil light go on intermittantly, usually while idling in heavy traffic. Sensor was replaced and that seemed to fix it...for a while. I brought it in to the shop for starter problem and mechanic told me I might want to start looking for another car. He said the lower part of the engine was covered in oil and it looks like the engine is toast. My car has(d) 120000 miles on it. I guess I was lucky. The car was always well maintained including oil changes every 3-5k. And I just put four new tires on it. Arghh!

We have customer with only 41k miles on her 01 Sebring Convertible - initially dealer said oil pump was under warranty A MONTH LATER they say, sorry our mistake not covered! Based upon looking at this blog, there is apparently a problem with the 2.7 engine. ADVISE KEEP ALL RECEIPTS FOR ALL WORK just in case there is a recall later so you can be reimbursed for repairs. We've seen repair refunds like this happen with Ford. |

I have a 2001 Chrysler Sebring with 61,000 miles. My check engine has been on for 2 weeks. I took to the mechanic who told me it was a misfire from all the rain we have had. He was able to shut it off and he drove it around for a while, but it came back on the next day on my way to work. Has anyone ever of a misfire happening?
|
||||
I have a coupe that did that at about 30,000 miles. It is at 87,000 now. I also took it to the dealer immediately, and they said it was a misfire. They cleared it, and a few days later it happened again. I started & stopped the car about 3 times, and the engine light went off. It has never come back on for that reason again. I believe the OBD-II computer that detects things like that will store the code in the computer. If the car has 3 successfull starts without detecting the problem, the computer will clear it. |

I have a 2002 Sebring with 60,000 miles on it and my oil light was also turning on when idling. Also, since it is getting cold here in Colorado, I would turn my heater on and it would have a terrible oil smell coming out of the heater vents. I brought it to my mechanic and all it was was the oil pressure switch needed replacing and it was leaking oil on the exhaust pipe from the switch. So I got lucky and all seems fine for only $75.00!!! Now if I can get rid of those dams rattling noises all would be fine!! LOL!!

Have a 2002 Sebring Conv., 50,000 miles, oil light
came on and rod started knocking. Mechanic says engine blown. I'm told there is an independant arbitration group hired by Chrysler to settle issues with this 2.7 liter engine....supposedly all are bad oil flow through engine. Has anyone else heard this or delt with such a group? |

I have a 2001 Sebring that I still owe mega bucks on. The engine stopped without any warning at all and left me on the side of the road. It has been difficult finding a replacement engine and the expense is dreadful.

My Chrysler Sebring 2004 Limited Convetible started making noises on the drivers side by the gas peddle, break and you can feel it in the steering wheel, while under warranty about 37,000 miles. Now it's 40,000 miles and still have not found the no8ise. It sounds like the finale of crackling fireworks and a banging as when you knock on the door.
The noises come and go at will. They have replaced the struts, replaced left loer control arm, retorquee front suspension. Today they took the steering apart and everything looked good to them... CAN ANYBODY HELP. Thank you so much |
