yes, my girlfriend has problems with overheating. The radiator, cap, water pump, hoses, all replaced, still the problem persists. White smoke out the back, thinks possibly the block is cracked. Cannot get the car dealer to take the car back.

I am having an overheating problem and think I have isolated it to a bad electric cooling fan. Anyone else had a similar problem with the fan not running when it should? Thanks.

I am starting to think there is something going on with the 2001 PT based on all your comments since I just paid to have the thermostat replaced and cooling system flusched as well and the overheating problem persists! It has been doing this for about a month now. My coolant looks very brownish (rust)! Has anyone solved the problem?

A few months ago I had my 2001 PT Cruiser worked on for overheating. It only happens when the car is idling for a while and I live in a rural area so don't usually spend much time in slow or stalled traffic. I had the thermostat replaced, the radiator fan replaced and the cooling system flushed. The car is still overheating in exactly the same manner and the radiator fan still does not turn on. The repairs were very expensive and I would caution anyone having the same problem because apparently the cure is not in the thermostat, radiator fan or coolant. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm trying to replace mine now. It isn't difficult to replace. I'm having a problem finding a new one that will fit. The new thermostat sealer is made too wide to fit. I can't get it tight enough to seal. I've been to autozone and advanced auto parts.

My 2005 PT Cruiser, on the road for 10 months, 20,000 miles....overheated....pulled over...read manual...let it cool down...hour later, started up car...drove 5 minutes...froze up....towed to dealer...said hole in radiator????? NOT....in dealership for 2 1/2 weeks...new parts...may have to replace heads or something...ridiculous...no warning....no leak....I am thinking maybe the fan went ....interesting to see that PT C has history of overheating....

I am having the same problem with my 01 PT, changed the thermostat, did the coolant flush, and it is still overheating. I thought I was leaking antifreeze but it was bursting out from overheating, this started happening about a month ago, but this weekend there was smoke coming out of it like crazy, I thought it was gonna explode. I'm having someone look at it this weekend. I was told it might be my water pump. My fan is working fine. SO - if I have any luck I'll let u know.
Was there a PT recall on the 01 Cruisers or what?

I had the same trouble. My 2002 Pt Cruiser (made in Osterreich I believe) overheated just during my holidays. The mechanic broke the thermostat and so the engine was cooled since it was on. Now I must change the thermostat and also in Italy the cost of the spare parts are incredible. The net of the authorized Chrysler is enabled to make you poor!
Just for curiosity, hom much cost a thermostat in Usa? It is convenient to ship it directly in Italy?
