<quoted text>If the UAW destroyed all those UAW jobs, then why were there 25,000, anyway? The UAW has made many concessions in the years since then. Besides, many lower paying nonunion supplier plants have been shut down and had their work sent out of the country. Just how low do we all have to go before that shit doesn't happen anymore?
Those jobs came about because there were no competitors immediately after WWII. Japan, Germany were in ruins. Unions made demands, management caved and simply raised prices to compensate. By the 1970s foreign competition was starting to have an effect. Prices could no longer be raised at will by the management, and customers got tired of being shafted by the union-management combine.
