My daughter's 2005 Tahoe is one of the many GM suv's that registers over the speed limit when it is sitting still. Her solution to the problem was to borrow her husbands gps unit, which shows your speed on the screen. He was wondering what had happened to it.

I own a 2004 Tahoe. At about 70,000 mi. The speedometer was acting crazy. The manufacturer would not help me. They said there were many complaints about this but there was NO recall!
They tried to sell me a new insterment cluster for 600 bucks. I bought an aftermarket one for 300, and installed it myself. It was very easy to do. Just pop off the face trim plate, unscrew 4 screws, unplug the old unit, and replace it with the new one! It only took 20 min. I bought my insterment cluster at JP Customs.

My wife's '03 Suburban started having the same speedo problems. In fact, just went to 120+ mph on Thursday. Ordered 3 stepper motors from the Ebay guy and installed them this morning (tach, speedo, alt.). Took less than an hour, works great, and only cost $52.00 w/ shipping. Sure beats paying the dealer $500.

Tim, The trim bezel (the edge of the trim around the instrument panel) just pulls off. Set the AC to the Instrument panel positon, put the shift lever all the way down, and put your tilt wheel in the full down posiiton. Then grip the front edge of the top of the trim with your fingers and pull gently. Use care getting it off at the bottom. It's a tight fit.

I have a 03 silverado Duramax Dually, with 28,000 miles. Sometimes all the gauges quit, turn the key back on and the work, happen only 3 times. Dealer said the would fix free of charge, even though it was out of warranty. They send them to Speedometer Svc, here in Roswell Ga. they charge Chevrolet 190.00 for complete overhaul odf the cluster.

news on the speedometer and other dash problems!!! I have a 2004 Tahoe thats had an eratic speedometer for about 6 mos. Then it finally got stuck on 120MPH and never moved again. My tahoe has 55,000 miles on it so its out of warranty. I DO NOT TAKE MY VEHICLES TO DEALERSHIPS FOR WORK unless its covered under warranty. As everyone knows dealerships will rip you a new one! So I called the dealership just to get an idea on how much they charged to fix it. I dont remember the number but I believe it was in the neighborhood of 600 dollars to fix it. And I would be without my tahoe for about 3 or 4 days. After investigating I found a guy on ebay from connecticut that has his own business at home. He fixes about 12 of these dashes a day! He had a 1-800 number so I called him. He told me that the problem was a bad stepper motor on the back of the speedometer and before it was said and done probally all my gauges would do it as they all have the same brand motor. His auctions are for the repair service and are 109.00! I actually paid him 50 dollars more and he replaced all of the stepper motors and bulbs in my dash. The good thing about it is you can still drive your truck without the dash in it. Although you take personal responsibility of oil pressure, gas and all that stuff. I sent it out USPS next day service and he fixed it the day he recieved it and re shipped it back to me. I sent it off Tuesday morning and got it back Today (Friday). I just got it back in my tahoe and it works perfectly. Total cost was about 200 shipping and insurance and all. Its very easy to remove and he has instructions on his auction site. It took me like 5 minutes to take it out. So it does me great pleasure to spread this guys name around for all to use because I feel like its my chance to break one off into GM!! Go to ebay and search for instrument repair service or speedometer repair service. His seller name is speedometer_repair_service. Ill be checking this message board off and on so Ill try to answer anyones questions. Its the same problem on all tahoes, silverados, avalanche,de nali, yukon, all that stuff with the same dash! I hope this helps alot of people!

digitalguy_1@charter.net for the stepper motors...I ordered one and replaced it.It took me longer to remove the cluster than to replace the motor I thought it was pretty easy. The only tools needed are: 1\4 inch drive socket set to remove cluster from vehicle, screw drivers, soldering gun to remove stepper motor and solder. You have to watch which motor you get some guys are selling bad ones, they have numbers on the back and if you buy a new one and the numbers match you got the same junk motor and it probably wont last.digital guy has the good motors(its been 3 weeks and no problem).

Daily Horoscope for December 27

Sagittarius

After all the excitement of the past few days you're longing for the chance to put your feet up and take life easy for a while. Ideally, you should bury your nose in a good book and be left alone until you resurface for a food transfusion. But you'll also enjoy chatting to someone you know very well and for whom you don't have to make a big effort, such as a close relative.
