This what irks me. Different dealers across the country saying and doing different things. No recall, yet there is OBVIOUSLY problems.. Which is why I started the petition, it's sickening that there's this many people out there.
|
|
I originated the contact via e-mail. We then talked on the phone several times. It was Done by Estes Chevrolet last Friday. By the way, I have no problem with the Dealer. They wer very helpful. |
|

that's great that your dealer is working with you, because most aren't. I don't think it's fair that some dealers are recognizing the situation, while others basically say it's not their problem, of COURSE it's their problem, they're going to lose business because of it, if not now eventually.

Hey T-Dub - what dealer did you take it to? Im in Houston with an 03 Silverado - speedo is pegged @ 120 like everyone else here - when I called Bill heard service yesterday they quoted the price like everyone else was saying. Please let meknow - TY Rob-in H-town |
|
Agreed CW - its not fair at all - just signed the petition [121 now] and filed a complaint. Its just ridiculous they refuse to even acknowledge the problem - yet the local service guys here all knew what I was talking about right away. |

Please everyone. File a report at nhtsa.dot.gov . I to have had problems with speedometer as well as the gas gage. Broke down on a Los Angeles freeway and found out my truck was out of gas. One huge problem. Gas gage read 1/2 a tank. Huge safety problem!!! GM knows of the problem but not enough complaints to isssue a recall. Dealerships are seeing this problem often and some are not so generous on fixing the problem.
Please file a report. |

The law firm of Levy Ram & Olson, working with several other firms across the country, is investigating consumer complaints of defective speedometers in the following GM trucks and SUVs model year 2003-2007:
* Chevrolet Avalanche * Chevrolet Silverado * Chevrolet Suburban * Chevrolet Tahoe * Chevrolet Trailblazer * GMC Denali * GMC Envoy * GMC Sierra * GMC Trailblazer * Cadillac Escalade Class action complaints have been filed in Washington and in Oregon, and cases are pending in other states. King 5 TV News in Seattle has expressed interest in the story. As all of you are undoubtedly aware, this defect causes the speedometers to display wildly inaccurate speeds and could lead to dangerous conditions. Some have described speedometers reading 45 mph when standing still, or inaccurately slow readings while cruising on the highway. GM has been making these vehicles for years, well aware of the defective speedometers and well aware that this defect presents serious safety concerns. To date however, GM has refused to repair or replace the speedometers or to issue a recall. Loyal GM customers are forced to spend several hundred dollars to repair their vehicles and restore them to safe operating condition. As part of our ongoing investigations we would like to hear from vehicle owners across the country who have experienced these problems. We are especially interested in speaking to California residents who have had speedometer problems in these cars. If you or someone you know have experienced this defect and would like to talk to us, I can be reached at the email below. For more information please look at our website. I have a 2003 Silverado HD and started having the intermittant problem the other day at 38,000 mi. Go figure. I am afraid soon it is just going to quit. Luckily I have a GPS to track my speed. Speedometers have been around long enough they should rarely ever break. I have been buying GM for 20 years. Looks Like its TOYOTA time.

I have a '03 Silverado 2500 HD. Same problem with the speedo. I researched this for about a week and found the problem to be the stepper motors in the instrument cluster that drive all of the gauges. They are junk, and often go bad. There is a new and improved one that fixes the problem. I documented this thouroughly to GM. No luck. GM couldn't care less about customer service. I spent a boatload on this truck, with everyting it has to offer -- Alison tranny, 8.1 L engine -- the works. What I got was junk. Piston slap -- no satisfaction from GM. Oil loss -- no satisfaction from GM. And now this. GM, three strikes -- yeeeer out. DO NOT give GM the satisfaction of charging you hundreds to fix this. If you are ok with a soldering iron, you can fix the speedo with a new stepper motor for a little more than $12.00. There is a guy on eBay who sells the stepper motors for less than $10, and a couple of bucks for shipping. They are a newer generation of motors, and supposely don't go bad. He gives you instructions on how to do the repair with only a soldering iron, and a solder wick. My teenage son and I fixed it in a couple of hours. I ordered 7 motors to replace them all for less than $75. The good motors have the following part #: X 25 168. The bad ones are: X C5 168. If you're not comfortable with the soldering, this guy will do it for about $150, but you need to ship the whole instrument cluster to him. It's very easy to remove, but you'll need to run without the cluster while it's out for repair. There are a number of people on the web who will repair or replace. Some ship you a repaired one, and require you to send your "core" back. Bottom line, there are lot's of options. Don't give GM the satisfaction or your $. You can find one or two sources of these motors on e-bay. Search for 03-06 GM Cluster Chevy Tahoe Silverado Stepper Motors. You can find lots of people who repair or replace the clusters. Also, sign the petitions, and report this to NHTSA. Good luck!

I have 2005 Silverado 3/4 ton, and problems with a spedometer. First started when I left truck running for about 15 minutes, come back to drive, spedometer at 0, when it sits for a while with the engine off then it works fine, and now it gets stuck, or jerks, or works fine for a litle while, then goes bad again.

Same thing here with the speedo. I bought a 2004 2500HD and the speego points staight down while driving. I stopped by the dealer the other day and they said it would cost around 500.00 to fix. After reading all the reviews about the same problem you would think a recall was in order.
