I have a 2003 impala LS.. Seems like i have the same issues as well.. No radio (theres power to it). no chimes. now the driver heated seat must of shorted out, there a burn mark, must of been in one of the coils in seat. So how far exactly is the orange wire behind the passenger seat for the splice?... is it a pain to get the carpet pulled back?.. This all makes sense because i also had to replace the fan motor. it was stuck on low and was shorted out.... Sucks not having any tunes driving, but after reading everones posts, look like i narrowed the problem down. just need to know exactly where it is behind the passenger seat... thanks alot. Water must be coming through the air filter cabin compartment, because everytime ut rains, the passenger floor is soaked... thanks.

the water is coming from the seal above the heater box. you have to take the trim panel on the passenger side wiper arm off and you will see the seal will be off or missing.. need to clean the area above the heater box and glue the seal back on.

ALL I can say is WOW!!! My stereo quit working, and chimes were all gone as well... took the plastic trim off the passenger side and peeled the carpet back and found the thick orange wire... tested where the short was and found it right away where the wire was just dangling there... Spliced it up and cut it and sealed it back up and works all good!!!1 Replaced cabin air filter which was all moldy and the seal was just laying in there... follow these procedures because this is the problem where the water is coming in!!!! Thanks for this site!!!!!

I did a little research and learned there are two orange power wires that run to the back to power the factory amp in the trunk. The first thing I did was get a test light to see if I had power to the orange wires where it plugs into the amp (in top of the trunk between the rear speakers). There was no power. Next I pulled all passenger side trim and lifted the carpet. It was damp underneath the carpet. I tested for power beside the front seat on the thick orange wire and I did have power. So I knew there was a short somewhere between the two spots I had tested. I ended up narrowing it down to a splice that is located inside that harness, right after the front seat. You'll have to remove a lot of very sticky and nasty tape to find it. There is a connector that takes one orange wire into two orange wires. That connection was very corroded due to the moisture. Cut it, add in a splice, and waterproof it as well you can with electrical tape. I can't remember how many for sure, but I know there were other splices at that same spot too. You should go ahead and repair them as well, even if everything seems to be working. Now I'm off to try to figure out where the moisture is coming from. Good luck! Did u find out where the water is comeing from cause my car is doing the same thing

andrew wrote: I got the same problem but I do have power to my amplifier but still no sound output any suggestions You will have power to the amplifier. You need to fix the leak that is under the cowl. Once again go back to my earlier post. Then to fix the radio you need to read the chiefs post and do what he instructs, then you will have everything fixed. Good Luck.

I have been having the same problems for 2 or so years, My speakers starting systematically making noises after the car was turned off. When it rains or if I go thru a car wash water enters into the front seat foot areas. The wiring in the trunk has been cheched and we replaced the trunk amp. Still not working. Radio is also fully functional but just no sound. Tomorrow we will be pulling up the carpet. I hope this works. two plus years without my radio so sucks! I'll let you know how it goes! Wich me luck.

The water problem is due to a poorly designed cowl by GM. Water literally pours into your car via the fan motor! I couldnt belive my eyes I when I found the problem. I pulled my carpet away from the firewall then sprayed my windshield with a garden hose and watched my passenger floorboards fill up with water! the problem is twofold: with time the plastic cowl lifts from the winshield and the rubber seals no longer seal. Also GM used a piece of cardboard to divert water into the drain,DUH! My repair/re engineering was easy and took 2 hours tops. First, replace the cardboard with a piece of rubber. I popriveted it on. If you dont have rubber take a bicycle inner tube and cut it the right size. Simple. I then silicon caulked the rubber seals to the car and caulked the cowl to the windshield. If your cowl is severely distorted resecure it with a couple self tapping screws and then caulk it to the winshield. Use black caulk if possible. Goodluck.

Im having a similar problem with my 05heart impala. I recently bought an aftermarket head unit (kenwood) and needed a wiring harness but couldn't find a scoshe or any other brand to fit it other then a $110 on crutchfield. I hooked everything up, all my speakers and chimes, onstar, etc... worked but yesterday my interior speakers quit working.
I double checked all the wiring diagrams and made sure it was properly connected but still no interior sound but my subwoofers play fine.
Any suggestions?

I just bought a 2003 impala yesterday with the same problems.... Wet floorboard, no sound from radio. With this knowledge ahead of time I was able to work out a deal on this car!
As mentioned before, the Water deflector was missing causing the damp floorboard. The spliced orange wires were corroded and no longer connected.
The orange wire splice was not where I had pictured from the description. I found the slice inside the rear passenger side door, just before the wires go under the rear seat to the trunk. Works great now and I have a new and better water deflector on order from an online site. GM part #: 15794785. This part cost me $2.50 +$12 shipping & handling.
BIG THANKS

I have an 03 impala LT having the same problem but I don't see a splice there are about 5 Orange wires in that harness under the carpet. I see a connector that was corroded badly but it was never hooked into anything because it looks to be the connector for the power seat on the passenger side which my car doesn't have power seats on the passenger side. Could it just be that I need a new factory amp??
