Aveo Exterior Door Lock Question. Please Help!

I have a 2004 Aveo that does the same thing. It is a safety feature. The driver's side front door has to be closed to lock it. Usually I am getting something out of the back seat, so I just reach and lock the front door manually. Then lock the back door. I guess I just got used to it.

Just had this happen as well today. Called chevy and complained they gave me the same speech about how there haven't heard about this before and will not fix it for free.

The same thing happened today to my 2007.

I locked my keys in 2004 4dr chevy aveo...how do I unlock my door????

I have a 2006 Aveo and it also had the same problem. My door lock fell inside my door on the driver's side.

my car locks and unlocks for about 30 sec each time i try to get into my 07 chevy aveo. i have to grab the handle very quick in order to enter the car. as i pull off the doors lock on themselves. this has been happening for the past week. please help!!

This same thing happened to my friend's car a few months ago. She got an estimate or around $200 to repair it. Typical shoddy quality and manufacturer not acknowledging that there is a problem. That's just sad. Makes me real happy that I bought a Toyota Yaris.

EXACTLY WHICH OCCURRED, THE LOCK FALLEN IN OR LOCK CLOSINGS/OPENING???? Can you find out what the main problem was that they fixed for her? Ive went to 3places: DEALER WONT LOOK AT IT UNTITLED I PAY $114 to "look", others mechanics never heard of it.....

This just happened to me too! I brought it to my local mechanic and he fixed it right there on the spot. He just took the panel off, removed the cylinder and rescrewed the bolt. I just got charged for labor. If you know how to remove the panel, it shouldn't be too difficult, but I had no idea and didn't want to mess around with it.

The lock fell into the door on my 2008 today. I need to take the doors off anyways to see what kind of mounting room I have for a better set of speakers.

What year is your aveo?

i just had the same problem on my2007 aveo.i managed to fix it ok took about 1 hour and it works fine but still a pain to have to do this when its seems to be manufacturing problem....

This happened to me today! 2009 Aveo5, 44000 miles (just out of warranty, of course!)

I just wanted to chime in that it's clearly a defect, and it kind of pisses me off. But hey, what do you expect from a Daewo....I mean Chevy

late in this thread...my 2008 aveo sameissue./lock fell into door, when drivers window is rolled, halfway locks ALL doors! uh yeah, thats called a DEFECT! thanks for nothing GM...

are there two seperate keys for an aveo hatchback? One for ignition and doors and another for the hatchback? My key won't work in the hatchback.

Just happened to my rental car as well but with a Spark instead. Something that Chevy is doing wrong here.

I have had my 2006 Aveo since it was new and when I put my window down while driving, it made a bad sound. When I stopped I had discovered the lock had fallen inside while driving! When I tried to put the window back up, it scraped the now damaged lock and caused it to make the handle stick out. I now have a hole instead of a key hole.:( There is also some rattling on the passenger side door and the handle comes off often where the door's inner parts are loosening. I have no kids or pets to make it hard on the interior or anything either. Other than that though, this little car has been great and easy upkeep for over 6 years now. The gas mileage is not what they advertised originally but it is still pretty good. I can live on one tank a month which is under $40 for now.
