I will make a long story short.

I have always driven a 4-5 speed Chevy of some sort. I understand how much pressure it takes to hold a car on a slight decline, especially when its a new 2007 Aveo LS with less than 6,000.

I parked the car running, pulled the break up, and went inside for 1 minute.

When I returned my Aveo had rolled down my drive , across the street and into the neighbors Oak. Now at first, I thought how F'n stupid am I g=how could I have forgot to even just slightly pulled the parking break for that second.

When I went to the now reck 2 day old Aveo, I noticed the parking break was FULLY ENGAGED, not only that put could only be pulled 1 more click.

Chev and their "independent" party, looked at the car supposedly did a bunch of tests. Tests?? WHY?? Its a simple parking break failure!!!! I have not been able to got the car to repeat this failure, but I WARN AVEO owners that I would never leave that car with just its parking break on. That car could have roll en over a small child or hit another car.

By the way the INSPECTOR did nothing more than looked and tested the break line, and its parts. In my feeling they should have taken it apart and and REALLY examined it.

Again just be careful, Im going to love putting a brink behind the back wheel of my now crashed 2007 AVEO. I just cant wait for this, to happen again, next time it wont be just a crash, it will kill someone.

OFFICIAL REPORT FROM CHEV AND THE INDEPENDENT agent... NO Problem... Funny now that I think about it , Chevy the entire time was most interested in how much compensation I thought I was entitled to. I said well obviously my door, and a new parking break or something.

Damaged AvEo

again watch that parking break, I cant be the only one driving a faulty Aveo.

PS- there is a recall on 2007 aveo, cant remember exactly # what but some type of posible fire due to low frontal collision. My dealers have no clue about it, and dont seem to know a thing about the parts to "fix" the problem. No dealer I have talked with seems to know..

To update, the problem has happened 2 more times.

GM states its not a default and that simply pully up on the hand break dosnt ensure that your car will not move. The AVEO parking break has a tendency to fall out of place when pulled fast, the break will fall and disengage in about 1-2 seconds, so dont leave your car warming this fall until you are certain the break is in place!!!

DONT LEARN THE HARD WAY!! AND ITS NOT A GM DEFAULT! HAHAHAHHAHAAHHAHAHAHAHAHA , what ever, until enough people are injured.

Next time, try shutting off the engine and putting the car in gear in addition to engaging the parking brake... I've been driving a stick for 30 years, it's just stupid to park it in neutral, especially on an incline. Leave it in first if pointed up hill, and reverse if facing down hill.

Oh, by the way, this is clearly articulated in the manual. Maybe you should just stick with an automatic next time.

I have a 2004 standard shift Aveo. I've driven it for 68,000 miles and have yet to have any problems what-so-ever with the emergency brake. In fact, I still have the original brake shoes on the little critter. You need an automatic. Trust me on this.

I have another AVEO issue. My daughter's car with 8,000 miles on it just had a major failure of the cooling system in a snow storm. The bill was $640 for them to replace a fan, a thermostat, change the oil and coolant.

The Chevy dealer, Balise Chevrolet in Springfield, MA told me she misused the car and abused it. She drove on an interstate in MA/CT in the snow. The warranty claim was denied.

I think we need to hear both sides of this story.

Is there any way you can post exactly what the dealer claims happened? What is the claimed misuse/abuse?

What does your daughter claim happened?

Details...we need details...

Problem with cooling system (specifically the thermostat housing)....

=> Rick : I am going to guess that your daughter's issue in regards to the coolant malfunction was probably due to the thermostat housing splitting apart and spewing coolant everywhere.(Thus the possibility why the fan went bad.)

But I have read countless feedback from other Aveo owners regarding the housing of the thermostat assembly burtsing apart as it is a two-piece plastic molding that houses a built-in thermostat. I was looking to buy a used Aveo for my wife and when I began to read the other forums tonight to find out more on the Avea, there were many complaints about this very issue. It seems the bright (also tight @$$es) at GM ( and their Korean owned Daewoo company) that manufactured the Aveo used a two piece plastic molded housing that has a high tendency to rupture or split apart. It is fused plastic (not glued together seam). Yet somehow it splits apart.(You would think that all engineers and automakers would stay the hell away from plastic parts , especially those that are under pressure of some type. Alas they choose to use cheaper materials to make our crap we so love today...

But a warning on this problem... if it ruptures or splits apart, I read from others that there is no warning that something is wrong or about to happen. Thus the housing splits, the coolant spews out and the car overheats quickly with little warning. This overheating can and probably will lead to other major issues such as warped heads, coolant inside the cylinders and worse, a siezed engine.

Thank goodness I found some of the forums before buying a piece of crap import with (what I thought) was an American made name slapped on it.

Was this one of the forums you checked?--

http://www.aveonetwork.com/viewtopic.php...

I knew about the plastic housing and replaced with a metal one before any disaster could happen.

I'll be changing my timing belt at 50k because I know they can sometimes go before the recommended 60k. For any car, it's a matter of being informed and diligent with maintenance. BTW, I am not the person in the link noted above.
