GM considering a new Chevrolet minicar

More beneficial consequences of the high gas prices.
Some car companies, and some people, will only begin to conserve fuel when it hits them in the wallet. All some care about is money. The high gas prices are forcing such people and companies who otherwise don't care about the environment to conserve. This is great. GM only cared about selling gas guzzlers until the price of gas went up too high. This is why I hope gas prices stay high forever. It will force the change needed to help the environment. It is like tough love for those who would waste fuel and ruin our environment. |

I'm surprised GM is doing this, since their market research (obviously) shows that Americans want to drive big cars that use lots of gas. I guess now we're all supposed to be patriotic and buy a GM. Where was this car 10 years ago? Why are they still making so many trucks and SUV's?

their problem is that they should have been in production already!! they are so slow to respond! this is why gm/ford and chrysler will all be gone in 3-5 years!! they were big fat cats , protected and bailed out by the government with no competition for so long and now they can still not compete!! they are thinking about this model "maybe" please!
p.s. if they had not been in bed with all the politicans preventing higher fuel standards for the last 30 years they would not be in this situation now!!! |

GM (Ford/Chrysler) build what the market demands. We (the American market) demanded SUV's, larger cars, and trucks. They competed for that...in fact the competition and demand was so high that Honda, Nissan and Toyota joined the fray with their own SUVs, larger cars, and trucks.
Don't go blaming the Big three or government for something we the people created. |

I think it is a good idea, but like someone earlier stated, this should of happened years ago. People are running from larger vehicles right now.

A day late and a gallon short... Mercedes has the Smart Car and they can't keep up with the demand. There is a waiting list. For $99 dollars they will place an order.... http://www.smartusa.com/ |

Too little too late. Back in '74 '75 oil embargo when gas shot up to $1.25, the car companies came out with all kinds of compact, fuel efficent cars and the oil companies started advertising on TV about how they were developing "alternate" energy scorces. Deja vu all over again.

Another death trap on the road. I think a Tuna can would stand a higher impact from a fender bender then this car.

If GM is still just thinking about this vehicle, will it arrive in time to save GM? I predict that GM will hopefully be in chapter 11 within the next year or so. Let's hope they have enough cash to make it to ch 11. Otherwise it is Chapter 7. Not a good way to end up.
As far as GM giving us what we wanted, many americans wanted smaller cars and ended up going with the japanese. Not all americans wanted gas hogs. But since we elected leaders that wanted us to have what we wanted, and not just what we needed, there are many to blame. Just why didn't GM develop top quality small cars too, so that they were ready when gas went up for the third time since 73? They got fat and lazy and will now pay the price. They made their own bed and will have to sleep in it. |

Yes, Deja vu except now their are more players. Bring back the Ford Pinto, Chevy Vega, and the AMC Pacer. All peices of crapola. The Japanese blew them away because they always energy conscious it is part of their survival... |

1 Artie, GM built this car for markets that buys small cars. They are bring it here because there is now a market for it in the US. We made this bed... |
