What a great story. We as a society need to get back to our heritage and realize who we are. We need to be North Americans and buy North American vehicles. Together, with all of our support united, we can persevere, prosper, and live happily. It’s all up to us. We need to stand up and tell our American and Canadian manufacturers what we want and demand action. Together we can build a better tomorrow for our children and for all to be proud of.

Why no comment? This is a positive story and it really can’t be refuted. Isn’t this what we want on the forum, good positive stories? I can’t think of anything more important on an autos forum than an American icon that moves forward and becomes something we can believe in.

Some interesting news from Canada.
GM has just announced it's adding significantly to its workforce in Oshawa to cope with hot demand for the Camaro.
Gm also announced it's ramping up production of the Windsor Transmission plant because of increased sales.
As well, the local Nemac Aluminium Casting Plant is ramping up production of GM 6 cylinder engine blocks used for the Pontiac G8.
Note that Nemac is a Ford subsidiary--also casts aluminium blocks and heads for the Ford Triton series engines.
On tthe downside, GM is phasing out all but two dealerships in the tri county area hereabouts. This means anyone seeking GM service will have to drive very long distances to get to a dealer---not a good thing for future sales.(How much of this is haappening across the US and Canada?)
Most, if not all of the phased out dealers here have pledged to stay open--but will switch to Offshore stores, or become used car dealers.

Something to think about.
GM, Ford, and Chrysler are phasing out several thousand dealerships throughout the US and Canada.
This means there are that many dealerships (which for all intents and purposes are fully functional) going to be available throughout the continent.
This then begs a question.......
How many of these former Domestic auto stores will become offshore auto stores, ie KIA, Hyundai, or worse--if China decides to open dealerships here?
Boy, if I was a Chinese entrepreneur looking to break into the North American car business, there's an opportunity to easily and quickly establish a ready made dealer network!

I have to agree we do need to support our own for a change. In buying autos based in Asia or Europe it adds over 100 billion a year to our trade deficit plus all the lost manufacturing jobs in North America.

It doesn't bother me one bit what China does or doesn't do.
Furthermore I care even less about your pathetic opinions on the subject--or any other subject for that matter.
As far as I'm concerned, you're no longer worthy of anyone's time here.
Get used to being ignored by all.

i think the low income families will buy the cheaper Chinnesse cars for gas saving ect, but, for the most part, folks now realise what buying foreign almost did to the U.S. auto industry and with GM and Ford quality much better and equal or surpassing Toyota,Honda ect American brands will fly even with less stores. im sure the stores eliminated for the most part have another dealership close by to it.

Americas GM runs for bankruptcy protection.
Then produced 1/2 the cars it used.

This is the real headline.

Although I'm uncertain why I would applaud the success of Canada and Mexico in their ability to continue growing their auto manufacturing base while the US manufacturing base continues to decline.

The VW plant in Mexico is on strike. I think VW will shift production to the new plant they are building in the U.S. Though I hear where they are building the plant that the people are not so smart. Something about the plant being in the south and having lots of colored people working there.
