Hello Again, I am still awaiting for bmw to admit liability 12 weeks now, still have no car, no windows, drive wrecked all our belongings in boxes, no carpets all due to faulty battery that was fitted!
What i am struggling to deal with is how they seem to be so arrogant and have total desregard to what there product has done to me my family and our belongings!
I believe that due to publicity they hope this will go away and they without the client knowing agree to pay the clients insurance company!!
However in this case i am livid in the manor that this has been dealt and call me sad, but this has consumed me for 12 weeks now!
And i want an appology and my home and belongings put back together!

My wife was driving to work in 6:30 AM on Feb the 10th, 2010 - the car caught on fire after being driven for less than 10 minutes - city.
She pulled over 15-20 seconds after the first indication of smoke/smell;
She noticed the front was already on fire as she was getting out of the car...
She was supposed to drive our 6 year old to practice after work. I bought a new car seat today, thinking what could have been...
Fire dept arrived at the scene in 4 minutes - someone had called 911 already apparently, they saw flames as she was driving - when my wife called 911 they already new the location.
Car exploded and was totaled in 4-5 minutes, fire was so great - the fence of the house, the incident took place in front of got, burnt too...

I am currently investigating a fire in a BMW that was parked for about six hours before it caught on fire. I know where the fire originated and have an idea about what caused it but I'm looking for similar fires. If your BMW was parked for any period of time time when it burned I'd love to hear from you so I could obtain more information.
You can reach me at sosinv@bellsouth.net

My 2003 BMW X5 4.4 caught fire while driving the I-20 interstate thru D/FW. There's no indication as to why the fire started, but thank GOD my daughter and I were able to get out alive. The fire seems to be electrical as well.

my 2005 BMW X5 went on fire on 2nd march 2010 in similar circumstances to one of the posts above.I had just dropped my son to school and was driving home when the car went on fire with myself and my 3 yr old inside the car.I am told it was afault with the air-conditioning motor which caused the fire. I contacted BMW several times and the response is extremely poor they have failed to make any serious effort to investigate the cause and safety issues raised with this incident which could have have had some serious consequences. I would question the safety of buyong and driving this model BMW X5 and would advise all drivers not to leave children or indeed anyone in the vehicle while it is unattended.BMW customer care seriously in question here.

MY BMW X3 (bought in 2008 dec) was on fire this afternoon when it is parked in the parking lot. The fire dept alerted by some and immediately they came in. I don't know the reason. The car was towed to BMW center. I don't know what they will do. I have no clue what to do. I called the BMW guys and they are saying they will call me back in 3 days after investigating it.
PLease provide me some information who have worked with BMW and did they help anything in this regards. ANd it is under warranty.

my email is mmrbmw2009@yahoo.com

Is there anyway we can file a lawsuit against BMW?

Please help me.

My 2002 X5 caught on fire in the middle of the night. Heard a car alarm at 3:00am, looked outside but the lights on my car were not flashing so I thought it might be someone else. Few minutes later it was going off again so I went outside and it was my car. No lights flashing. Remote didn't work to turn off the alarm. Opened drivers do with the keys and all airbags had been deployed and was filled with smoke. Electrical burning smell. Walked into the house to get a flashlight and when I came out there was flames from the dash onto the front windshield on the passenger side. Called 911 and they arrive in 3 minutes.(I live two blocks away) They smashed the front windshield and put of the fire. The car was in great condition and good working order. The car hadn't been driven in more than 6 hours. Fire was coming out of the dash on the passenger side. There was no damage to the engine compartment. Inside of the car is trashed. Waiting on insurance to inspect it.

My Sister's 2007 BMW X-5 spontaneously burst into flames during the early morning hours. Subsequently her home burned to the ground and all was lost including 3 family pets (dogs). My Sister and her family were spared when my Brother-in-law woke up to the smell of smoke at around 5:00am.

Has anyone else lost everything due to BMW's X-5 fire issue?

What has been the final determination from BMW in these fire-related incidents?

Thanks...

OMG! My 2002 BMW X5 caught on fire on 3/6/11. It's so freakin crazy! I was inside my home on a rainy day, and all of a sudden I hear my alarm going off. I run down stairs and open the door to shut off the alarm, but it wouldn't stop. I went up to the car about to put the key in and open the door, and smelled something burning. I hauled ass back inside and shut the door. I saw the car fill up with smoke. I called 911 and they sent FMFD. When the Chief got there, he smelled smoke. All the doors locked and lights were flashing, and windshield wipers were going. The door airbag then deployed. They used the key to enter the vehicle and found there was an electrical fire inside the dash. They had to snatch fuses and disconnect the battery cable while the other firemen stood around ready to hose the car down incase it burst into flames. I was soooo scared. I had never had any mechanical problems at all from my car. I'm almost afraid of BMW'S now! My insurance commpany rendered the vehicle totalled and paid it off though thank God!

That is exactly what happened to out x5. the cooling fan just burst into flames in out drive way. My 10 year old neice just happened to see it, and we put it out with the water hose. Our insurance company paid to fix the damaged parts, but now we have a damaged title. talk about depreciation in value...lol I cannot beleive that there hasnt been a class action lawsuit against bmw over all of these spontanious fires that are occuring all over the world, but of course is not their fault.

WOW! Never thought there were so many X5s on fire! I had a 4.4 i with all the bells and whistles for a year and a half. I pulled into the garage (inside a 170 unit condo building!), turned off the ignition, went inside, and within 15 minutes there are 8 fire trucks outside, and my X5 was engulfed in flames. My insurance company and some independent company took the car apart and concluded that the accessory fan overheated and caught fire.
I offered BMW my insurance check in exchange for a new X5. They had the audacity to say "not our fault" and offered me 2500$ towards the purchace of a new BMW. I thought they were kidding! And this is the "ultimate driving machine?" Please.

My 2002 315 I was totaled by Fire on May 30, 2011. It was parked in client's driveway, within less then 8 minutes was consumed with White Smoke and then Fire. The Fire Department was called in on site within less then 3 minutes. The Fire & Emergency Services/Report: "arrived on scene to find a passager vehecle with heavy fire from the truck & the interior of the vehicle. We deployed an 1 3/4 inch attach line & extinguished the fire. Owner advised that saw smoke coming from the truck area & opened it with the remote. The fire from the trunk spread to the interior of the vehicle. She was not hauling anything unusual in her trunk. No flammable gas or other sources of ignition. The battery is located in the trunk area of this vehicle & I suspect that this fire was started by Electrial Wires/Problem. The vehicle is a Total loss. Estimated value loss is based on Kelly Blue Book Value."
My Beautiful 2002, 325-I was only serviced a BMW Service Stations, Richmond BMW [Sept. 2003- March 2011] and Keeler Motor Car Latham, N.Y.[Sept. 16th 2001{DOB}-Sept.10, 2003]. I only had 87,000. miles as of the {Sunday roll-over odometer} she was dead the next day. I Never had any trouble with this car. I had expected to have another 10 yrs. &/or 100,000. miles of driving, as I kept the car up, Only at BMW Service Stations. This was a great car & a great financial loss; as I paid cash when purchased. Now I find myself looking for a Pre-Owned that will never replace my [new @ purchase] car with a Pre-Owned that I will never really know the History of it.
But, I was lucky in that I was not drivimng the car at the time &/or had a Child &/or Pet in the Rear Seat Area! Please, Remember, this car was Parked in a Driveway & within a less then 8 minute period was Totaled, with Two Large Explosions!

[QUOTE o="Ed Baker"]Parked my 2002 BMWX5 after smelling someing burning 5 blocks from my home. From the time it took me to get out of the car and walk to the rear, the car was filled with black smoke and in short order the car burned. An independent professional company that specializes in vehicle fires and causation was hired. The conclussion was that it was electrical, originating in the center of the dash. I was lucky to have gotten out when I did.
