"The discovery of the pick-up in government fleet purchases at the taxpayers' expense comes just weeks before GM announces its second quarter earnings. Overall fleet sales (which are typically less profitable than retail sales) at Government Motors rose a full 36% for the month, helping to drive decent sales improvements year over year." http://nlpc.org/stories/2012/07/05/gm%E2%80%9... This just in: capacity has exceeded demand for the volt by a wide margin and the prius is the third best selling car in the world!

Before you wet your pants, you should clarify things a bit: The Volt is the best selling plug-in vehicle in June, 2012. The Prius Plug-In is second and the Nissan Leaf plug-in is third. Just saying "Prius" doesn't work anymore because there are now four different models. Prius, Prius V, Prius C and the afore mentioned Prius Plug-In. The Prius(non plug-in)is considered a hybrid and is currently the best selling hybrid on the market. I'm happy to finally see Volt sales taking off and hope it can sustain it.

Toyota disagrees with you. They say the Prius is the same across all lines so they can combine the sales numbers, even though they are wrong.

You don't seem to mention how happy you are by saying just where those sales went to the final week of June that would have entered as a 2nd quarter sales slump... and as everybody now knows they were fleet sales plus to the new 25,400 Fed workers went that obama hired these past 2 years to enforce his new communist/socialist laws... It's all as a part of his so called job growth spending to include new cars to those Fed workers who he says need something to drive. That doesn't include their 14% over-the-board pay raise and all again it's to the Tax Payers expense. Also you don't seems to say much about the direction obama is steering the Economy and going over the cliff with all these "Newe Taxes" coming our way... by his using such gimmicks as the obamamobile (volt). Too Funny.

Too Funny. Wifey says: That's very true... and you forgot to mention just how obama has forgotten about those communist party uaw (unions) as there's no more Tax Payer money left for handouts to them... and they are already classified as non-profits they pay no taxes or healthcare (obamacare Tax) either, so far. What a scam as he steers The Economy over the cliff... The clock is ticking. Too Funny.

Too Funny. Wifey says: Yes that's very true... and that's exactly what obama is doing that allows his obamamobile (the volts) in existence... and just like all of that communist party uaw, all at the Tax Payers expense I might add. Too Funny.

NEW YORK (TheStreet)-- As high gas prices dominate the headlines and pain at the pump multiplies, General Motors'(GM) Chevy Volt is finding more consumers willing to buy into the plug-in electric hybrid vehicle concept. In fact, initial concerns that the record sales number posted by the Chevy Volt in March was driven by a big fleet purchase from GE(GE) were premature and didn't reflect just how quickly the Volt's fortunes shifted in March. It's fair to say the Volt ran right over those cautious assumptions. Between the high gas prices and headlines about a Volt battery fire earlier this year possibly receding from the consumer landscape, the sales picture improved. The Volt -- a month after GM temporarily shuttered production of the car -- reached sales of 2,289 in March, 50% higher than December 2011, which previously was the vehicle's best month since launch. More importantly, only 160 of the purchases were by fleet buyers, while 2,129 Volts were purchased by retail car buyers. The fleet buying was only 5% of Volt sales. There is currently a major study out that explains the lowering costs of Lion batteries. This will lead to dramatic cost decreases.
