It's a pretty aggressive restructuring for the next 4 or 5 years, but they need it in order to remain a viable company.

Indeed - but I am happy to see they are treating them better than the previous owners did. It looks better than it did.

Re points – Your points may be valid under your pretense. It has nothing to do with me or our little debate as they were off topic and placed under a faltered premise.
lighten up scooter...
Can't get any lighter than this---evidently you're so impressed with yourself as to refuse to admit any failings in these debates.
That's just some helpful advice---take it as you wish.
Oh yeah--one more thing---that "off topic" excuse to bail out is getting a little shopworn now---you often use it whenever you're getting behind the power curve in a discussion.
(That "power curve" analogy is aviation speak for "you're losin' it"---and it applies here)

Toyota just posted a second quarter profit, proof that its own turnaround is working, and they did not take any bailout funds.

Regardless, all automakers will make more money when the market rebounds as they've shed many layers of waste.

Chrysler stands no chance under Fiat control. Americans don't want Chrysler cars, they don't want Fiat cars, and they certainly don't want Chrysler-branded Fiat cars. The plan is flawed, customers have fled the brand and will shun any Italian cars masked with a badge.

You will all soon see that Chrysler will be a pleasant surprise to the eyes as well as the pockets of consumers.Beautiful elegant cars, eye candy unlike those ugly fat fords and dodges whose mission is to pollute rather that take ppl to their destinations.Chrysler will show to American consumers how American cars should be manufactured.Japanese companies don't manufacture cars but cans. You can easily see the diference in the European highways. They are invisible, noone notices them.I strongly encourage you to buy an Alfa Romeo or BMW or Audi. You will find your self smiling each time you sit behind the wheel and switch on the engine. You will never regret it.

Re Chrysler:...
That's exactly what the local auto pundits are saying here.
I'm not sure I agree with it, and Im very concerned about potential impact on employment in this area.
This city and its neighbour, the City of Detroit, have been hit desperately hard of late because of the auto industry decline.

You lost your credibility.
Either you can’t read or you’re just stupid. You base a rebuttal on something I never said. You fabricated a rebuttal on utter nonsense that you created in your head. Let’s take a look at what you wrote:

“Perhasps too full of yourself to admit it, but we're used to that from you.
If you recall (or is that asking too much?), you posted at great length that the balance of trade in the US has to reverse course, ie, the US must be allowed sell more of its goods and services offshore.”

Not once did I ever say “the US has to reverse course.” I never even implied such a thing. Unfortunately you don’t encompass the skill to discern commonality. Either you’re book smart with very little common sense or you’re just plain ignorant.

Never once have you won a debate against me nor will you ever in the future. I challenge you to go back and find one instance. Hell, the posts of your latest spewed rubbish are on this very thread for all to review. You give canucks a bad name.

Toyota most certainly took bailout funds from the Japanese government and tax breaks from the US government and US states.

What was left of your waning credibility just evaporated, my friend.
Like I said: "Nothing plus nothing equals nothing"
This last rant of yours speaks loudly.
You're really nothing--- just full of sh*t.
Some advice:..
Perhaps it's time to turn over this silly little job of yours to someone more worthy.

Why just 'spin' this issue at Toyota?
Was anything different for GM and Chrysler this year?
Actually, each of the Detroit Three has dined at that trough over the years, so what's new?

PSST---your bias is showing---again!
Like I said--Maybe you're past your prime?

Get your head straight. The man clearly said Toyota didn’t take any funds. It’s amazing how we must explain everything to you. In a way, we feel sorry for you.
