1985 Toyota Tercel 4WD Wagon [Down On The Street]

I remember my buddy had one of these, it was his 1st car. It was just amazing how it would keep rolling through anything and was up to any challenge. It's no wonder he still drives toyota's, and probably one of the reasons that I sell them now.

Certainly Toyotas were rusty then but they kept on chugging.

All automakers has serious paint shop and body-in-white issues back then. Wouldn't you agree Tom?

My fathers 82 Century still has a solid body, show me any Toyota from the same year. It doesnt exist. Not with all the salt we are getting every winter in Ontario

Hah, saw a newer Toyota Corolla broken down with emergency lights on the side of the freeway after a small hill area, guess it was just too much hill for the little car!

I was on my way to an amusement park in an 89 Century to meet my family. Half way through the 2 hour drive, the waterpump gave way. On the pennsylvania turnpike, there were NO exits for another 20 miles. Drove it like that with the "stop engine now" light flashing along with the "check engine" and "check coolant" lights. Finally pulled over and let it cool off, put some water in it, and drove the other hour of my trip with the heater on, and then drove the two hour trip home, on a burned up water pump. Shows what a real car will do...

And that car had about 150k, so a waterpump was justifiable.

I drove the '78-'87 RWD mid-lux cars and they rusted out in no time in Buffalo, NY. Worst part was that the rear frames would give way long before the body.

But....that is the past and we live in the present. The new body-in-white paint shops are amazing and the E-coat process ensures complete primer coverage.

Hmmm.. after 26 winters in Colorado, Oregon, BC, and New Mexico my '82 tercel wagon still runs great, gets 45 mpg if I drive carefully, and handles snow, mud, and dirt roads better than just about any car. Let me know how how those eddie bauer subarus or ford explorers are doing in 26 years...

Toyota Tercel is a piece of junk, none of those places you listed exept Colorado and parts of BC get rust. And anywho, Toyotas these days are nothing like the Craprollas and Blandrys of today

Man I have seen quite a few Tercel's with blown engines at low miles (under 50k). I live in Wisconsin, not a lot of older imports left on these roads.

The reason for this is that they end up falling apart and rusting, any ones left should be in a museum.

As far as I know all the car companies make junk, it is just a matter of how many lemons per 1000 vehicles manufactured you get and over the decades toyota has been proven to have fewer break downs than american cars but they are still little tinbox shit cans that I would really hate to be in if a car accident occurs. I have a 86 4wd wagon with some rust but in the northeast it is to be expected and boy does that little shitcan climb.

A car is a car! A lot of japan car are made in Canada and USA and they do give job to your people! A lot of Japan people are also working in Ford, Dodge company!

Almost all of the profits that come from domestically built asian cars go to foreign countries all the same;
there is very little diffrence if it is made locaaly or imported, what is really supported is the company headquarters, which are, obviously in another country.

So, as a result,
if you buy a car from an asian company,
even it was built in your own country,
you are supporting a foriegn economy more than anything else (obviously) so, assuming that you are doing the right thing by buying a locally built asian car is incorrect.
Buying from it rips you off and your country's economy.

The cars from asian companies are pieces of trash to begin with.

You should donate it to a museum, it is worth conserving for future generations so they can see an older example of characterless jap crap.
