I have a 2005 Mazda Tribute with severe inside tire wear and cupping. The dealer advised me that the vehicle has a negative camber and is within spec. They did align and rotate the tires but advised me that it will wear the tires. Does anyone else have the same issue?

unusual tire wear like you describe is a sign of car needing wheel alignment.
theres camber, caster and toe in to measure, and set,, your dealer dont know whats he doing is my guess.
take it to a more reputable technician.

Same problem with two sets of tires within 37k miles. The tires are so loud I cant even hear the radio

The camber is most likely fixed on your vehicle, so an adjustable camber kit may be needed at significant cost.

i have identical problem with the same model year. i already replaced two of them because they were really bad and made an awful noise. i put in about 5,500 on these new ones an unfortunately, the cupping is back. the tire dealer refered me to an alignment shop, but according to the technician the alignment is within the car spec. He recomended that i go back to the dealer and inquire about getting a different brand of tire because he thinks it might have to do with the aggresive tread pattern on the tire. I have continental conti trac 235,70/16.

I have a 2005 tribute with tire cupping problems also. Continental replaced the originals at 15,000 mile and the new ones are doing the same at 25K with 5k rotations. Besides a camber kit, is there any tire that won't cup on this model? I assume Escapes have the same problem. Mazda/Ford should be installing the camber kits...fat chance of that!

Hey guy,

Just trade that thing in on one of the newer CUV's with higher horsepower V6 offerings. The new Saturn VUE with 257HP and 6-speed auto surely is more entertaining to drive. The RAV4 V6 as sell. Good luck with the tires.

Hey idiot - read the entire thread....CAMBER KIT

The Cute Ute was built cheaply and has limited adjustment for alignment. Spend about $300 at the dealer and get it done right or keep chewing tires.

We took one of our fleet Mazda pickups back to the dealer because it was 'side tracking'and handling poorly under braking. Turns out that the right front camber screw is MISSING. It's being repaired under warranty. A second vehicle in our fleet has the same problem. How widespread is this problem? Should there be a recall?

That's their way of "cost reduction". Just leave out a few parts and see if the customer notices.

The issue is continental tires. Try michelin or other tires - they don't all sound good from the factory. I drove some test vehicles at the local dealer and they told me they recommended changing the tires away from continental. Look into other tires PLUS get an alignment that is dead on not within spec.

Have 2005 Tribute with same problem, allegedly within specs, at 33,000 miles.

Couldn't take the Conti tires noise /rumbling anymore, just sprung for new Bridgestone Aleva this week. we'll see!

After reading the comments I have the same problem with inside cupping on 2005 Tribute. Always rotated at 7500m. Mazda aligned vehicle at 35000 and at 52000 still same cupping. mazda said another alignment in order (toe is off)..Went to tires plus and they looked at alignment and it was all within specs. Other than that seem to be good tires. I am considering a "camber Kit" when I purchase new Contitracs at 52000m still have a about 10000m tread left. Will a camber kit be necessary if I get other tires such as Michelins or Bridgestone Dueler HT? Is a camber kit only needed with the contitracs? comments please

i have a 2002 madza tribute with the same problem inside cupping and noise you can't believe. highway road noise is loud and handling is not at all good.. this is the first i heard of a camber kit.each inspection by madza has come up the truck is in specs... you think those specs might be a little ascued (u think) something is wrong and the manufacturer is not telling the truth.

Have a 2006 Mazda-3 which I purchased new that is doing this exact thing. Early on with the original set of tires (which were very cheap Toyo's) I noticed the road noise was getting very excessive. Had the Mazda dealer look at this two different times and was told the tires are making the noise due to cupping because I wasn't rotating them enough. That was a bunch of bull since I did rotate them more than specified and even more after I was told that from the dealer. Nothing changed and at approx the 25K mark all four tires were completly worn out on the insides. So I purchased very good Michelins and was told by the tire dealer that something is definitely mis-aligned to wear out tires like that. So immediately after having them installed I went to another Mazda dealer to have the alignment checked. That dealer told me I needed an alignment very badly. According to them the aligment was way off. Got the alignment done and with the new tires all seemed OK for a while. Then the noise started coming back again. Now I have about 25k on the Michelins and see that they are starting to cup and wear to the insides also. I stopped by the tire dealer for an opinion on the wear and was told there has to be some sort of alignment problem. Called and explained all this to the original dealer and was asked to bring it back for them to check out. I am sure I will here the same song and dance but this time I have a little more ammo to fire back at their BS answer. BTW, I also have a friend who owned a 2006 Mazda-3 with the exact problem. They drive a Honda now!

... Same AWFUL noise on 2005 Mazda 3i...
I replaced the factory tires at like 25k Miles, after putting only another 5k on the new bridgestone Potenzas, the noise began. I put new shocks on, then was told my Tires were too Aggressive. Had the alignment checked at 3 different locations and was told that it was on point.
I purchased some Enkei Evo 6's 18" with the tire size 215 40 18's.. These have been great no noise but it is time to replace them...
Talked to a few guys about new tires found out NITTO makes a Tire.. the Neo Gen with a harder inside wall to help with cars with this type of camber problem.
So, may help, may not. But this is how I stopped my Annoying noise!
