It's not so easy. If a car isn't initially designed with American safety and emissions standards in mind it's usually prohibitively expensive to modify them to be so. This is the reason why so many fun Peugeots and Renaults and Citrons and Fiats and Alpa Romeros and and Lancias and Opels can't be sold here.

But since Americans have now taken to small cars, perhaps the next generation of these carmakers models will be designed with the North American market in mind. I certainly hope they will be.

Peugeot has made great progress with reliability. It is now providing engines for the MINI, did you know that?
I personnally drove a 308 in Italy, incredible car!!!
If Peugeot was sold in the US, I would certainly buy one.

No I didn't know that - thanks.

Your probably not old enough to remember this, but back in the 70s French cars were sold in the US.

One of my friend's parents had a Peugeot station wagon. It was OK; very reminicent of a Volvo or Mercedes wagon.

But another of my my friend's parents had a big Citroen - and it was the coolest car on earth!

I took a ride in a Peugeot when I was in Europe a few years back, they really are very comfortable cars.

Thing is though, I hear French cars have some of the lowest reliability ratings around. We will see what happens.

They could buy Hummer just for the dealer network. Or maybe GM would sell pontiac or buick.

i hear that the safest and the stromgest safty standards are imposed here in europe!
that is why mercedes;bmw and volvo are among the safest cars on the planet!
so i wonder why is there such a gap between us and eu car safty standards.

I'd love to see peugeot sell cars over here. GM, Ford and Chrysler have NO idea how to make cars that get good mileage.

Yes Peugeot makes some great cars, and actually the technology used by the French is very innovative but few people in the world know that.
I am not afraid to say that they build some of the best driving cars in the world (safe and Green). i would personally love to drive a Peugeot in the US, But your comment on pricing is right, Peugeot and other French OEM believe they can sell their car the same price as the Germans. That is their one largest misconception. They need to position themselves correctly if they want to have a chance to start in the US and slowly build up the image of the brand using an aggressive and young marketing approach. The automotive industry is so interesting i would love to work with them and make sure this time around Peugeot succeeds in the US.

There's someone in Bay Ridge who had dealer plates on (2) different 307SWs in 2008 (one red, the other silver).

This site appears to list Peugeot Dealers in the US, including one in New York :

I am sad to let you know the truth that mercedes and Bmw here in the usa are not similar to those on Europe. The quality here is somewhat lower compared the the ones overseas.

Don't believe everything you see today and your memory could be playing tricks on you, too. You might remember things in a distorted or false way, through no fault of your own. You may also be reading too much into the situations that are going on around you, making it hard for you to know what's really happening. Try not to make any big decisions today because you simply aren't thinking straight.
