Judged: 1 John Quinones died after he was stabbed multiple times at around 4 a.m. Wednesday at his Austin apartment. Quinones had just moved to Austin several months ago, his father, John Quinones, said Friday. “About 11:30 Tuesday night I talked to him,” his father said.“He said ‘Dad I love you, I miss you.’ He seemed hopeless, like he didn’t have family over there. Then this happened.” Police arrived at Quinones’ apartment after receiving a call at about 4:13 a.m. They found Quinones and another individual — whom local friends said was his girlfriend’s brother — dead from stab wounds. Austin police arrested 30-year-old Adam Castillo in connection with the stabbing, and charged him Friday morning with capital murder. Police report that Castillo and the victims knew each other. John Quinones said his son had one 2-year-old daughter and another 5-year-old son. His body was set to arrive in Corpus Christi on Friday, but his father said family members have not set a funeral date. |

Judged: 3 2 1 The vicious murders played out inside an Austin apartment, where 27-year-old John Quinones and his friend, Carlos Caudillo, were stabbed to death, allegedly by 30-year-old Adam Castillo. In this affidavit, Caudillo's sister, Corrine Caudillo, describes how she woke up to the terrifying sounds of screams. "She woke to her brother yelling ,'John! John!' followed by sounds of him moaning," the affidavit said. She said she tried to wake up her boyfriend, John Quinones. "I tried to get him up, but he didn't wake up. He didn't look injured, but he didn't say anything and he didn't move." the affidavit said. She went on to say... "I saw Adam Castillo stab my brother in the head, and neck. He was just stabbing him all over. My brother was trying to fight him off...he just kept stabbing Carlos." During the terrifying ordeal, Caudillo said she called 911 from the apartment, but before help could arrive. She said the attacker began stabbing her boyfriend. "I saw Adam stabbing John. John was trying to get over the coffee table. I saw Adam stabbing John on the chest. John was trying to hold the knife away, I just kept yelling,'What are you doing? What are you doing?' " But Castillo told a very different story. In the affidavit, he said he stabbed the men in self-defense. He claimed he questioned a conversation the victims were having and was forcibly pushed away. He said Quinones and Caudillo then approached him in a threatening manner, and he picked up a knife he'd left at the apartment and slashed them. |

Judged: 3 1 Police discovered Quinones and another 30-year-old man had been stabbed to death inside an Austin apartment Wednesday. Quinones' father said he spoke to his son on the phone just hours before he was found dead. Johnny Quinones was having trouble coping with the death of his son, John. "I just couldn't believe it, I was in shock, he's just a wonderful person and everything," he said. Quinones said John called him on the phone close to midnight on the night of the murder, and never imagined that would be the last time he would hear his voice. "He was telling me that he felt lonely, like he needed us over there and everything, and I just said,'Hey baby, I love you, you know that,' and then he told me I love you to." Nearly five hours after their conversation, John was found stabbed to death. Quinones said John called other family members that night, and believes his son may have been trying to ask for help. "I don't know what happened, I just don't know." Quinones said John loved music and was working construction in Austin, where he lived with his wife and two children. His grandmother Catalina said at times it's hard to just look at his photos. "I can't even bare to see them sometimes," she said in tears. Catalina and Quinones said they'll miss seeing John's smile and treasure the love he always gave them. Police said there was a disturbance between the victims and Adam Castillo, 30, who lived at the apartment complex. Formal charges are pending against Castillo who was taken into custody after the stabbing. |
