This thread is so full of peoples fear and ignorance.
I have just posted this on a similar thread so for what it's worth, here it is again.
It's so sad to read the hatred, when we've proven the Australian way of life has been happily accepted by every culture, who once saw it the same way as you seem to feel Muslims do.
After all, all Australians, Aboriginals included, are either immigrants or descendants of, so it's a bit hypocritical to pretend our latest wave of immigrants are any different to any of us.
Race after race came here in an effort for the original arrogant Poms to get cheap, easily exploitable labour, after they lost the use of slaves and convicts to make them rich without actually doing anything themselves.
Every race has eventually assimilated, but when you have leaders dividing the nation by making irresponsible statements, and I include Muslim leaders in that statement, all that does is fuel the fear and hatred on both sides.
I find it offensive when immigrants can't send their children to our schools, but then, what's the difference between the rich and poor of this nation, sending their children to different schools.
I mean, why can't the children of the rich attend the local state school like every other Australian child?
Instead of encouraging them, people vented in ignorance, and we now have a huge wedge between us and the latest group this nation has invited in, to do no more, than once again, exploit them in the lowest of jobs.
That's because the last wave of immigrants brought here to be exploited, the Asians, have like every other group, now become the same as all of us, and won't do those low level, physically hard jobs anymore.
We've all had our turn, and whether you like it or not, that's the truth of it.
It wasn't all that long ago I heard similar racist statements about, Chinese, Japanese, Germans, Vietnamese, all Europeans, and now, as with each new wave of immigrants, it's the Muslim's turn.
I won't accept all of any race are bad people.
In every race we have our extremists, and our fair share of crazies, it's just that at the moment, the Muslim isn't understood, with some of their practices (their own schools)easily being viewed as insulting to us, considering they're guests in our country, but as I said above, all races have come here, and all races have had their moments, due to our ignorance of their cultures and vice verse.
Some of their leaders, and a lot of their excited youth, haven't helped that situation, just as John Howard didn't, by his subtle grandstanding as he grabbed onto whatever he could, to hold onto power.
Racism is about fear, homelessness is a result of mental illness caused by a plethora of events, and anyone who is legally living in this country as a naturalised Australian, is an Australian, regardless of the colour of their skin, their religious beliefs or country of origin.
By treating them with contempt, and vice verse, all that's happening are wall's of resistance.
If we all stopped this divisive behaviour, and embraced all new Australians, none of these nasty episodes would occur, and like all races and religions beforehand, assimilation would easily occur.
I mean be honest, who on this earth wouldn't want to embrace our easy going, accepting and inclusive way of life?????????
Think about it, every European Culture has, along with all Asian cultures, you name it, we've won them over.
There isn't anyone who isn't a pushover to a kind smile, no matter where they're from, or what they believe.
