Nowhere in the article does it say if they took the carcass back for scientific investigation. My understanding there is little known about their biology. One theory is that they are supersmart and evade fishing trawlers. Their only enemy is sperm Whales.

There's also a theory that you can't get sunburnt in Perth because of the angle the sun's rays hits our atmosphere.

The true reason for them not getting caught often is that they're normally found only in (really) deep oceans.

Anyway, 50kms out of shore might have been too far to haul back, plus it might have been unsafe to haul up if a shark was feeding on it at the time.
