I hope they don't demolish the entire site, may be one or two Wards but it would be a shame to see a lot go.

I think that if we are to see the site preserved for future generations it is vital that the site be utilised and developed appropriately. This does not mean knocking down the building but it does mean substantial changes nonetheless. New Norfolk has had for decades a reputation because of the "looney farm". A modern facility will help the area open itself up to new opportunities.

Well said Clnorman, you have pretty much summed up my thoughts. I think RDH is a huge asset to New Norfolk if dealt with appropiatly e.g a tourist attraction like Richmond, Port Arthur etc. It could make New Norfolk a destination not a stop over on the way to somewhere else.

The complex is a massive and I think both the old Barracks and 1930s buildings (that are protected)and the newer buildings work as a whole to show 170 years of healthcare in Tasmania and it would be a great shame to lose any of the buildings. In saying that re-adaptive use it very much needed.

If it was still used for it's original purpose, your post would've made sense.

If any of the people who access this site and are interested in some very well hidden history would like to access any information relating to events at Ward C on the evening of March 11 1968 and the repercussions over the following six months I wish them luck in their search of facts.

This period appears to have been deleted from history.

Might also like to attempt to research conditions and treatment of "patients" in Wards ,7 ,10 and A.

I know what those conditions and treatment were like.

I was there from late 1967 until the early 1970's.

People would not beleive the conditions and / or so called treatment during that period.

I was held in Ward 10 then transferred to Ward C and had contact with people held in Ward 7 and Ward A.

If you think Port Arthur was bad , try comparing it to Lachlan Park / Royal Derwent Hospital during the period mentioned ,if you can find any records.

If you are truly interested then email me at geoff51blue@hotmail,com and I will give you information you may not find elsewhere.
