3000 'shortfall' leaves gaps in thin blue line

THE Police Association will today launch a drive for an extra 3000 operational police to fill what it claims are gaps in a force overstretched by fast-growing suburbs and late-night venues.

I was in the process of putting an application in as a police recruit....Not sure if I can afford to do the degree and travel to and from Goulburn every weekend with a mortgage. I will have to do it part time, if I do.

I pulled out...because I'm not sure if I can afford it at this moment. Tis also a very demanding career and you see some nasty things.

Personally, I think there needs to be more support for police officers, give them incentive to stay in the force. Plenty are suffering from burn out and post traumatic stress which can't be a good thing.
