And when was the last time Australia was invaded? I think 1819 when they came enmass to confiscate the property of the aboriginal owners of Australia.

This is a waste of money. Australia only has 20 million people. Hence maybe 5 million men of fighting age. There is no conceivable way they could protect the amount of borders with their population. They would have to rely on US and Britain, if ever an invasion of an Asian Army into Australia.

You are correct but they were on the radar screen in WWII.

"In early 1942 elements of the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) proposed an invasion of Australia. This proposal was opposed by the Japanese Army and was rejected in favour of a policy of attacking Midway Island and isolating Australia from the United States by advancing through the South Pacific."

Well KRudd is basically bending over to the Asians, the Chinese in particular. Buying fighter planes and submarines is just window dressing to assuage the feelings of more conservative Aussies which are very rare these days.

It always amuses my when third world morons come onto these forums with advice for rich and successful countries. If numbers were what mattered in military affairs then the breeding vermin of Asia would dominate the world. As it is the oriental nations have invented practically nothing, have client economies to the west, which is an improvement over their indigenous economies, and have a fraction of our wealth and military power. Australia is an island. It doesn't matter how many Asians there are. It only matters how many can be landed and supplied in an invasion. Air power is superior to sea power. As long as the airforce controls the airspace around Australia it is impossible to invade. That's why we have invented "over the horizon" radar to see ships hundreds of kilometres away and spent millions installing the facilities. That is why we spend billions contributing to the joint strike fighter development. It's money well spent because it means we stay free and wealthy. And please shut up about the Aborigines. If it wasn't for us they'd still be living a half starved poverty stricken life in the bush or exterminated by cruel orientals.

Since our own Defense Scty. is apparently trying to kill the F-35 project, it's a good thing that the Aussies are buying 100 of them.

It's good for Australia, and it's good for business.

Daily Horoscope for December 11

Capricorn

You're dashing around in several directions at once today because you're gripped by the burning desire to get things done. You're in a tearing hurry, and the problem is that this could make you rather irritable if things don't go the way you want or people don't jump to it. You might also be feeling angry with a friend, even if you can't put your finger on what's wrong.
