VANCOUVER, Wash.– A 28-year-old Washington woman severely burned when a stranger threw an acid-like liquid in her face is listed in serious condition in a Portland, Ore., hospital's burn center.
Nancy Neuwelt is the mother of the injured woman, Bethany Storro of Vancouver, Wash. Neuwelt tells The Oregonian her daughter was getting something out of her car in downtown Vancouver when the attack happened Monday evening. Neuwelt says a young black woman walked up to her daughter, said "Hey, pretty girl, do you want to drink this?" and tossed a cup of acid in Storro's face. Neuwelt says her daughter bought a pair of sunglasses shortly before the attack, and that may have saved her eyesight. Still, Storro's family says her face will take months to heal. |

That's awful! OMG, that is awful!
Does anyone know what caused the attack? I couldn't find much, although I did find this story (with photos) if anyone is interested: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504083_162-200154... What I want to know is what caused the unprovoked attack like that? Was there any kind of altercation before that? Words or dirty looks maybe?(It says they didn't know each other...) If that perpetrator really did just go and do that to a complete stranger, with absolutely no provocation, they have probably done it before and/or will do it again. Meaning they likely will be apprehended eventually, if that's any consultation.(I know it doesn't undo the damage but will prevent it from happening again.) Kinda like serial killers and sex offenders. They don't just strike once. They have mental problems that make them act like that.(Known as "Need-Driven Offenders".) Fortunately all modern Law Enforcement Agencies have the ability to track such patterns. So yes, the perpetrator of this act will almost certainly be caught and dealt with.(Hopefully soon.) But yes that is awful! Fortunately the victim appears to be ok for the most part. |

I heard about that. Now, what I want to know is... WHY IN THIS WORLD did this person self-inflict this injury? What was the MOTIVE? I cannot seem to find that anywhere. Does anybody know? Was it just for attention or something? Damn! That's one hell of a way to get attention. Is that what it was? Because that's about the only thing I can fathom. There wasn't any financial motive that I could see. Anyway, I guess now I've seen everything... |

This nut probbly wanted media attention. I bet she received free medical care from the fed when she was admidited to the emergency room. If she did she should be made to return every penny. |

I think you overlooked some of the more recent posts of this thread. It turned out later to be a hoax. Therefore there was no "black", or perpetrator of any kind, for that matter. The injuries to the victim were self inflicted. As crazy as it sounds, that is apparently what happened. The injuries were apparently self-inflicted. |

That's what I was thinking. Media attention, or perhaps to get the attention of someone, perhaps a family member or some kind of ex-lover, or maybe even someone employed at the establishemt that happened at? Or just the old 15-minutes-of-fame thing? IDK... No matter what, that was a crazy thing to do. If she wanted attention like that, there are other ways to do it, LOL Anyway yeah that was just a messed up thing to do. On so many different levels... |

A lie this low self a esteem stupid attention whore. Used up precious money and time of a police investigation looking for a black women that didn't exist. This is horrible trick she played and she needs mental help.
What if they did catch someone that would be a huge inconvenience for that person all because she lied. |

You guys are trying to use sane logic and reason to determine something that is completely illogical. I'm going to guess that she was mad because her mom forgot to put the new roll of toilet paper on the roller, or something like the grocery store where she shopped didn't have waffles on sale that week. Those would probably be better explanations, don't you think? |

I know one thing this person was a nut case to put acid on any part of her skin on purpose. I have accidentally gotten some strong acid on my hand in a lab, and it would start burning like fire before I could get it attended to. She paid dearly with pain for her foolish act. I can only imagine the pain she endured because of her foolishness.
