we attended the concert and it was pretty good but you were correct, there were more people on stage then there were in the seats. they must have lost their rears on this one financially. come on van wert we need to support the npac or it will not be here long!

i just think van wert people are not willing to try new things and maybe listen to music they have not heard in the past. i do agree that attendance seemed to be down across the board in 2012 so hoping to see better support this year!!

the npac only books current performers like the lennon sisters who appeals to all ages, after all they just recently made their initial TV appearance on the lawrence welk show in 1955 FINE'

DeeDee wrote: <quoted text>I'm with the poster above you, they need to branch out and have a larger variety. It's not about not wanting to try things, to me it's about paying $80+ to enjoy something I already know I'm interested in. That's for two seats. Performing art centers don't book acts with the thought of "only a handful of older people will like this", at least not if they want to succeed. They book universal acts that families with younger children and teens, college kids, young and old adults with enjoy. That doesn't seem to be how the NPAC goes about things. Their philosophy seems to be "who's cheap?". They don't give credit to people, we do spend money to see who we want. That's why I'll pay $140 for two tickets to see a kid's band and $60 to go see a good comedy act. With only 1200 seats here you'd pay 140 for one ticket for a popular band that appeals to young people and 90 bucks each for the comedian. I say again, volunteer! Come forward with your ideas. Maybe you can figure out how to get it done. Please remember though, it's not tax supported and must be financially self sustaining.

can't really blame the folks who pick the shows, they are picking what they know and are familiar with. they are old so they book performers from their past as we all would. it just sucks if you are under 30!

Goodie wrote: <quoted text>What makes you think people haven't went forward with their ideas? They do it all the time. And we're always told the same thing: those acts can't be booked. We haven't tried, but we know we can't get them.
Every year there are a handful of rock bands that do free parking lot shows. Free. I'm sure those businesses aren't paying above what the NPAC could. Look at the county fairs and even little festivals. Some of them book acts that "we can't get". I call bs. Call them up Einstein. You can talk with them and get a price just as easily as the PAC. If they won't talk to you, they won't talk to the PAC either.

This may surprise some folks but I saw a news story that said only about 20 percent of the immediate Van Wert area makes up the audience at non school events. The rest, 60 to 80 percent come from Lima, Mercer County, Defiance and the Ft Wayne area. So I looked at some license plates in the lot at 2 of their shows last year. Damn straight. That's what it looked like to me.

Goodie wrote: <quoted text>You really have no clue how it works do you? When I have dealt with groups or individuals I have went through their publicists. The NPAC may sometimes go that route, but a lot of groups also have a booking agent. I don't deal with them, it's not my job. FYI, sometimes a booking agent also wears the hats of tour manager and publicist, just depends on the success of the band and how they can staff. I don't work for the NPAC, I probably should though. I'd reach out to a diverse audience and not just want the golden oldies booked. Ever go to a winter show at the NPAC when a "storm" picks up? One inch of snow means maybe an eighth of the seats are filled because the elderly won't drive. Can't afford me is right. If you know so much, get involved. Is there some reason they don't want you?

and while we are on the subject let me point out that larry gatlin just had a top ten hit in 1988 and tony orlando was just recently in the top ten in 1975 so do not say the pac does not book current acts ok

Goodie wrote: <quoted text>They don't want any suggestions and I'm not a paid employee. It's pretty easy to understand. They've been approached by dozens of people, we are told what's presented is good enough. The audience at this last show was patheticly small, but hey it's good enough. They are sort of like you, blind. They have people saying that we want to spend our money in town, we'd love to support the NPAC, we do go see concerts and shows, but they could care less that our money is going to Fort Wayne, Columbus, Indy, Cincinnati and Dayton. I even went to Chicago for a few things in the last year. You sound like kind of a caustic person. If I were the PAC I wouldn't talk to you either.
