Santa Cruz County prepares to name its first ever poet laureate

Full story: Santa Cruz Sentinel

In January, Santa Cruz County will have something it has never had before: an official poet laureate, a job that's going to entail a lot more than thinking up a rhyme for "cowabunga." The Cultural Council of Santa Cruz County announced the new position on Thursday, adding that the nomination process will be open to the entire community.

Luckily, all of the crime, budget, traffic and economic problems have been solved by the "progressive" rulers, leaving plenty of time and money for this essential concern.

Who is paying for this?

Great idea if it's from private sources.

Obscene if it's from taxpayers.

Why the public is of course! The SC Cultural Council gets it's funding from the public trough and they can't be denied an opportunity to socialize with other 'artistes' just because of some measly funding issues. Just take on more debt and stop whining...Let them eat cake everyone! Want proof? Here is a link that identifies you, Joe Six Pack taxpayer as the s*cker for this newest progressive boondoggle:

Folks face it California will never get out of the mess we're in as long as our current politicians are in office. We're doomed when they can find money for this and the Tannery but are more than willing to cut off thousands of students from college courses as a means of punishing the electorate for not voting in more taxes.

Santa Cruz is nothing until we get a 'Czar' of some sort like a Breakfast Czar or a Cheeseburger Czar that could tell us, the citizens of Santa Cruz where to eat and what's good for us. How about a beach Czar or a housing vacancy Czar? I mean it's amazing we've managed to survive without someone to lead us around and show us the way as it should be. Yes, poet laureates, Czars, nannies, we need these things in Santa Cruz otherwise we would have to think independantly and that scares me as it should you after all it's only tax money we'll be spending on these omnipotent progressive beings.....

On a night out to drink and pout,
I came 'cross a man with some drugs and a plan,
his arm he did jab then his "brother" did stab,
No mas cultural diversity I'm headed back to the University. Do I get the job?

You complain about people complaining? How sad is that?

Some posters are clever...

some downright uncanny.

Some add lightness and wit...

You add a pain to my fanny.
