How interesting. Never knew that Bakelite was used for anything other than jewelry. Nice story.

Hi, local gal,
I'm glad you caught the Bakelite exhibition at the Mark Twain Library.
It has been extended to June 4th.

I am a great grandson of the inventor, LH Baekeland. I brought the collection from Amsterdam. The owner and I hope to move the exhibition to another venue in this country.

Watch for a write up on us in the May 23rd New York Times

Please spread the word.

Hi Hugh, I am a collector of Bakelite bracelets and other jewelery and have come across a stash of beautiful wood molds that were used to make bakelite plates in Rochester, New York. Are you interested or could you put me on to someone who might be?

Margery,
The Chemical Heritage Foundation in Philadelphia is about to open a permanent exhibition this fall, which features Bakelite and the "Bakelizer", the first pressure cooker to manufacture Bakelite. I would be interested in acquiring some or all of these molds to donated to the CHF. The remainder I would give to my partner, Reindert Groot the owner of the Amsteram Bakelite Collection. I believe he has contacted you via this Blog site.
Please let me know what you think.

Yours sincerely,
Hugh Karrkaer
