Gov. Palin you continue to give lip service. To recruit new applicants will require funding that you are not prepared and have not given to DPS. Recent contract negotiations did nothing for recruitment. You fail to get rid of Tier IV retirement. And you fail to make Pay and benefits competitive with other Alaska Law Enforcement Agencies. I have to believe this has everything to do with Wooten. Your a crocked politician just like those you attempt to get rid of. With your new found commitment to DPS I'm POSITIVE you will show that support through a return to Tier I for LEO's and firefighters. I'm sure you will make DPS the top paid Law Enforcement Agency in the State as well as fully funding DPS needs for equipment, training, and daily operations. To the Media - Lock our princess down on how she intends to recruit more people to DPS. Lock her down - get specific answers = not lip service. She's failed in 17 months and will continue to do so.

If not for a personal issue than what? I think maybe she is suffering from a mental breakdown and doesn't remember that she was supposed to be the peoples governor and an open book. HMMM...I am not sure what her problem is when it comes to Law enforcement and corrections but she obviously has one. If she is claiming a new direction she should outline how this other person is better suited to take us there. I think that she has forgotten what courtesy is when dealing with employees. I think she has forgotten that it takes more than a pretty face to run a state.

I happen to know Wooten's step daughter and I know that she is absolutely TERRIFIED of the man. He needs to be jailed.

To The Media: Please press Palin & Kopp for answers. The public needs to know what the new strategic plan is & why Kopp is so well suited for carrying it out. We've already heard Palin say she wants a "new direction & increased recruitment" now we need to know the details: 1)Just how do they intend on increasing recruitment without drastically improving benefits, pay & retirement budgets? 2)How much more money will be dedicated to filling positions & providing DPS workers with the proper tools for the job? 3) How was Monegan's plan flawed in comparison to Kopp's (Kopp must HAVE a plan, right?) that was enough to justify firing him? 4) Finally, how do Palin & Kopp intend on restoring the morale of our DPS workers so that they are willing to continue their service (Palin must realize the crisis the already understaffed dept would face if workers decided to quit)?
We must demand these questions and others be answered publicly and soon!

Wow, I thought we finally got a govenor that was going to put the needs of Alaskans first and not use the office to handle her own family and personal needs. Once again, Alaskan politicians are screwing over the state to take care of themselves and their family. Sarah you should be ashamed of yourself, admit you messed up and do the right thing and give Walt his job back. I used to like you, thought you had integrity, but I see now that you're in office you're no better than the one that sat before you.

If Monegan was asked to can him and didnt some one should"time for a change" I wonder why Wooten is not in treatment at least.

I knew Alaska was in trouble, when Wally Hickel backed Palin for the state's highest office.

Wooten is a renegade, out of control trooper and irregardless if the governor's office pressured Monegan to fire him, he should have been fired a some time ago from Monegan's initiative alone or by the previous head of DPS if he was not the head at that time.
Monegan was just not competent as the head of DPS if you cannot even bring back in line one bad trooper.
That job has a duty to the public too, and you don't promote public safety by keeping a troublemaker like Wooten on the force. He failed. Add in his budget problems and he just was not that good at his job. Well liked yes, effective, not in these two areas.
Monegan had a chance to stand up and 'touch' an untouchable and he failed. His job is NOT to kiss union ass. His job is to protect the public.
Now, regarding whether the governor pressured Monegan to 'fire' Wooten, that could be just right for an independent investigation, but chances are it will not prove Halcro's claims. But it would be in line with the governor's above the table style she is so preachy about and vindicate her or Halcro. Live by the sword, die by it.

This trooper Wooten should seek counseling, and thank the Lord he is not behind bars!!! As for Monegan he should be apologizing to the governor for his lack of integrity to oversee his department and respond to a very serious problem within. After reading thru all the reports my conclusion is "THANK THE LORD" this person is no longer a state trooper!!! Monegan your incompetents in this matter shows the Governor is at the top of her game looking out for the welfare of the Alaskan people by getting on with what you could not seem to handle your self.
