With this logic....why not raise rates 100% if that will save us more money?

The numbers seem skewed. It will only cost the average user $4 or $10 a month. What is the average user. I consider myself to me a low user and my bill is over $100 per month. My my math over $21 will be added to my bill, not $10! I think it will cost the average user at least $25.

Once again, that rate increase will happen in phases.

NM's largest utility seeks electric rate hike

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.(AP)- New Mexico's largest electric utility filed a request with state regulators Tuesday for a rate increase that would add $10 a month to the average customer's bills starting sometime next year.

Public Service Company of New Mexico is asking the Public Regulation Commission for permission to boost rates by an average of 21.2 percent in two phases.

The second phase would add about $4 more to customers' bills in 2012.

PNM says phasing in the rate hike would help ease its impact.

PNM's chief executive officer, Pat Vincent-Collawn, says the utility understands this is not a great time to ask for a rate increase.

However, she says the request was unavoidable.

PNM has raised rates by 24 percent over the past three years.

I can't remember the real CEO's name although Ben Dover it may be. Lonst story short, the old CEO left in march and took 1.5 million with him as a leaving bonus, the new CEO got .5 million as a signing bonus

It may be in phases but the math is still skewed. The KOB story Barb linked to quotes the total increase as being $14 for the average user. My bill is over $100/month which means an increase of over $21. I consider myself to be a low user and don't understand how anyone could use less unless they don't use electricity.

PS. Why don't they cut the pay for the CEO and not have a signing bonus? Rates could stay the same or be cut if it wasn't for these overpaid tie wearing chair warmers. One of them makes more in one year that a whole block of customers will make in a lifetime.

Hmmm...what with the BP's catastrophe shouldn't the energy companies be kissing our behinds? I mean really, we can tell that the management of energy companies are incompetent and money hungry.

We should find a way to protest and change this somehow.

Well, given what the PRC did when Blue Cross/Blue Shield requested their outrageous rate hike, I'm sure this is a done deal. Fricken leaches!

Was that the one where they allowed the rate hike first, THEN opened it up to public objection? More details would help as that's all I know

Remember this when it comes to whom you vote for on the PRC. They are the ones who'll be bought off, I mean will vote on the issue - not the ratepayers!

If I recall, they had asked for a 24 or 25 percent increase and the PRC allowed a 21 percent increase. Later, the head of the PRC admitted he had not really looked closely at the proposal. I haven't heard anything about it since.

Did you think that the power companies were just going to sit around and let their bottom line be cut $$$ by privately owned solar and wind green electricity.

Electricity bills are increasing again they are doing it every year now.

Everybody’s electric bills are going to go up and up and up, the electric companies keep using the same excuses, they need to do repairs and upgrade the electrical system. They are feeding us a bunch of B.S.

What is really happening electricity companies are starting to feel the pinch of green energy.
More and more people are starting to become electricity independent, generating solar and wind the ones who can afford it.

It is going to get to the point where the poor people like me, cannot pay the electricity bill and other utilities, Because the electricity companies are trying to make up for what they are losing, from electricity independent people.

I cannot afford green electricity, solar and wind, pretty soon regular electricity, and this cycle is going to continue to get worse, more electricity independent people, more electricity bill increases.

WE THE PEOPLE need to wake up. State energy commissions say no !!

The reaal reason your rates ar goin up is those "Renewable/green" power sources, mandated by law.
They are not economical, can't pay for themselves before they wear out, are an insurance nightmare and your elected representatives under the Gov. Fatso regime, mandated that we would use them.
Green power aint', it's expensive, and you are going to pay!

Absolutely correct. He who made the decision was the head of the Insurance arm of the PRC, and he has since resigned, however the damage has been done. The clown is probably on the board of BCBS now.

Mexico...

Taxpayers for the sake of the of the "green" Red environtmental tax and control agenda.

A government controlled corporation climbs into bed with with progressive democrat environmental elitists, playing "good cop,bad cop," while using subsidies to finger the taxpayer purse.

Shameful.

The driving force for the rate increase is not competition by privately owned utility companies. PNM owns ALL the transmission lines and can deny or set a rate for others to use them. Small companies cannot possibly raise the necessary revenue needed to build their own, as well as obtain rights of way. No transmission ability means no way to sell that energy, which means creating that energy is useless. PNM has them by the short hairs! Anything they create PNM will buy, at a rate convenient for PNM, but then that is how business works unless the PRC makes a case for the PUBLIC portion of the PUBLIC Regulatory Commission and balances out the playing field a little.

The driving force is the piss poor investments PNM has made in other companies for many years that they own/owned in other parts of the US and their failure to make money. Its their poor decisions we're stuck with paying for, not any pressure from anyone else except their shareholders.

BTW, the rate increase has been filed with the PRC, not heard nor acted upon yet.
