Typical APD agressiveness. That shows APD at its finest. Photographer was not being combative nor was he being threatening to the officer. When will APD recognize they have a lot of bad officers on the force that want to initiate not only their authority but their lack of common sense. I say suspension pending termination for this officer.I am sure the Chief will spin it to APD advantage.

Another fine example of Albuquerque's finest. Fire the P.O.S. APD, the biggest organized crime family since the Maloofs.

This is not the first time KOB 'reporters' crossed the line with APD. They are notorious about getting in the way. I am glad they cited this idiot. Way to ruin a crime scene just for a story.

The officer didn't even give a verbal warning that the photographer would be arrested. This is bad.

Expect a lot of uneducated comments from obvious APD officers to follow.

I watched the video and the officer involved hit the photograoher and started the confrontation. The officer needs to be fired and thrown in jail. He is a criminal. We don't want men like that on our streets. Policemen are supposed to arrest men like him. Kudos to the photographer that was smart enough to keep shooting the camera. This is the USA where we are supposed to be protected from police brutality, not fear it. The city needs to drop charges on the photographer and fear a lawsuit.

I can't wait until the 100 days of beatings, I mean summer. I also work as a reporter and was tasered by police on two separate occasions. In my opinion the police acted out of control. This is just another case of the militarization of the police in New Mexico. Visit www.theworldsword.com to see more about police brutality.

Typical APD punk officer. You question his authority and the punk with the badge does what every coward does and loses his cool. Of course APD will proceed with the citation. Nothing new there. APD is a joke! Thats what that huge pay raise is for? Abuse of authority, disrespect for the public, and blatant disregard for the legal system. Cameraman should get a lawyer and go after the City for Negligent Retention of a bad officer then go after the officer i.e. His retirement (PERA) that would show The Punk who he works for.

Are you kidding me!!! An assault and arrest in the middle of a public street outside the crime line? This is unbelievable. APD needs to teach some classes on the Constitution and the First amendment before teaching these little punk rookies how to tackle people who aren't posing any threat. This is going to turn into a huge embarrassment for Albuquerque and the entire police department. I can't wait to hear that the officer has been put on PAID administrative leave (aka vacation) while this blatant act of police brutality is "investigated."

The raw film footage speaks for itself! Young and bold authoitive cop...sucker punches the camerman for no reason.

I have dealt with many cops...had them as neighbors as well. Most are good, really do "serve and protect", but there are too many, like this onme, who have a power trip, an authoriatarin attitude, and aloofness about them, probably because they doubt their masculinity and virility!

The Chief has no other duty here than to rid the force of a clown like this! Anything else simply says he supportsd and condones this behavior...in which place HE needs to be replaced!

I'd love to hear what Mayor Marty has to say about this incident...no white wash, no other innuendo...theat film speaks clearly!

A couple of things to note:

1) KOB was selective about the video the "raw" video they put online. They edited out the entire confrontation that they wrote about in the article.

Having worked for KOB myself I can tell you this - if something's been cut out, there's a reason for it.

2) The officer is walking away (and saying nothing) when the camera man swings the camera toward the officer and says, "I'm not putting the camera down."

3) Look at the officer, just before he takes the photographer down he flinches backwards.

Why?

People don't flinch backwards for no reason.

Personally, I'm glad they took the camera op down. The officer was walking away and then the photog crossed the line.

So for those of you who say, "typical APD" step back. Take a deep breath. Then watch what KOB is letting you see. The evidence is right there in front of you.

Police work is dangerous business and takes a great deal of courage. But dealing with crime day in and day out creates all kinds of emotional, stress related issues for officers that may not have the coping skills or support of the establishment to deal with it effectively. Like soldiers returning from combat the trauma and violence has lasting effects on those caught in the line of fire. It is obvious to me this officer over-reacted in this situation by striking out at the camera man. Police in the area were trying to do their jobs but this employee of the t.v. station was trying to do his too.

since the photographer wasn't threatning anyone, shouldn't have the police officer first given him a warning before tackling him?

Stay away from cops and thugs...there is a thin line between their mentality. How many Albuquerque citizens are brutilized by APD that didn't have the camera rolling?

another question is why did the officer tackle the camera man. he wasn't resisting arrest and didn't pose a danger. why use that amount of force?

APD is not going to do anything folks. They never do wrong. This officer will be patted on the back for arresting the photographer. This officer needs to be put on leave and educated about the first amendment.
