Beware if you lose your social security #.

Someone close to me unfortunately lost their social security card. So I proceeded to call the Social Security Bureau to try and file a lost card only to be told there basically wasn't anything I could do. I asked if changing the social security number might lesson the chance of anyone using the numbers in a fraudelant way and was told that it wasn't possible and that losing the card wasn't enough to have the numbers changed.
This bewildered me at first then the more I thought about it I realized how much it started to really infuriate me that this persons personal information is merely floating around out there for any criminal intent to take place. Meanwhile we were told to wait like sitting ducks. can anyone please tell me why nothing more is being done to try and secure our very own identities from the criminal enterprise that is lurking in our society today. Its no wonder identity theft is on the rise when our very own government does nothing to make drastic changes and simply sweeps in under the rug. |

Perhaps it would be a good idea to tell Social Security you would like to renounce your social security number.
All a social security number does is enslave you to our corrupt government, which you are then forced to support for the rest of your life with income taxes. Illegal aliens don't have social security numbers, and they don't pay social security or income tax, yet they're entitled to welfare,AFDC,foodstamps and free health care at emergency clinics. All payed for by our corrupt government fleecing the fools with social security numbers. |

Somebody is either lying to you, or things have changed drastically within the last 10 years. One of my kin lost his social security card so we went with his needed records and got a new one. I'd report that and try again. |

It is true the social security system HAS been corrupted. It was originally designed to be a form of savings account, federally insured I guess, for people to have money automatically taken out of their paycheck to provide for their old age.
Fast forward to the 21st century, the government can and HAS raided the social security funds for use in the 'general fund' and then complains later that us "baby boomers" are going to be a burden in our old age. Nice huh. To add insult to injury congress suggests allowing only 5 years of work and then an illegal alien can enjoy social security. It's funny. I've had memos sent me that have me needing to work at least 2 more years before I see ANY of my social security at all. I've worked more than 5 years, less than 10. I would not demand any more than I have put into it; but as it is now, I may not see ANY of it. While some illegal alien can use it. Love it. Might as well figure now it is nothing more than another tax on your paycheck. |

So. If you DID "renounce your social security number", would monies for that STILL be taken out of your paycheck? If so, to whom would it go? Government doesn't like losing taxes. At least you have a case if you're being stolen from. |

Yes our government is ripping us off taking Social Security out of our paychecks, and taxing us again for that money we never received.
I would love to renounce my social security number and demand back all the money I put into it. However, I don't believe the feral fat-lips would allow such a thing. If they did there would be a big run on the federal ponzie scheme. The criminals running our shadow government are deliberately bankrupting Social Security, so when it does eventually run out of money, they'll make us pay for it again by raising taxes even higher. Of course they'll have their base of illegal aliens and the poor to vote for such a huge tax increase. The communist entrenched in our government are masters at the game of divide and conquer. Thats why they love diversity so much. |

I forgot to mention to the folks out there that SSI doesn't furnish or distribute SSI statements to the working class under the age of twenty five. So these people are even more susceptible to fraud. SSI should come up with a much better plan to prevent the fraudelent use of one's social security number. Maybe they should start by putting a face with the number like they do with a state issued license.
By the way I live in NM where ID theft is one of the highest ranking crimes. |

Why do people carry their social security numbers in their wallets or purses. There are only specific instances when you will need it. If SS issued new numbers to everyone that lost their cards, wouldn't we soon run out of numbers? and what a mess trying to get all wages posted to the right social security number if you have several that you have used when it does come time to collect benefits.

If we start to run out of numbers we can always add a digit.
|

At least it wasn't done in all caps. |

For your information this person was not carrying a social security card with them it was a selective service card which just happen to have their soc. security number on it. The reason this person was carrying it on their person was because he was just issued the card and promptly placed it in their wallet and unfortunately soon after misplaced their wallet. As far as tracking the number with the appropriate person there should be some system in order to date. If we can send a man to the moon why wouldn't we be able to come up with a reasonable solution to track social security numbers with the appropriate person. How could we run out of numbers when it can be infinite. Maybe we could add a letter, the possibilites are endless. |

Who knows--perhaps one day in the future we will all have microchips implanted to replace the cards. What happens to all the homeless who have lost all I.D.--anyone out there know how they would ever get a replacement?

i think u guys are retarded. U cant renounce ur social security #. What you can do is renounce your citizenship. Which you have to be off US Soil to do (at a foreign US Embassy) If you stayed in the us and worked and just "renounced" your social security #(which you cant do...), you will still be help accountable for the money owed and if you didnt pay would be help legally liable. As for worrying about identity theft. What are you worried about exactly? Credit Fraud? Put a block in with the major credit agencies and that will not allow anything to be started.

Judged:
1 This statement is not true. They get deducted from their check as we all do(if working with a fradulant ssn) and they do NOT get Food Stamps and Welfare. |
